Thanks pal - so rather than £235, it's closer to £750 then. Would you say it's worth it?

I wonder if it would work with coded EBT.

Bugger! Too late for me...

I really wanted CarPlay, but didn't spec EBT as it is next to useless on my existing car. I discussed this with my salesperson when I ordered, though no information was forthcoming and they said they would keep me informed...

Oh well, on the bright side my car is being built now...

I've just received the email to say my car has moved to 1200 so I need to decide TODAY if any changes are required....

To EBT or not EBT, that is the question....

Add it. What is it going to cost you a month? Compared to not having it and regretting it while you have the car.

Just chatted Genius and found out the following:

"I can confirm that Apple CarPlay Preparation will be available for £230 via the BMW ConnectedDrive Store (www.bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk) for registered BMWConnectedDrive account holders. Vehicles must be fitted with BMW Professional Media system (609) with the latest iDrive software (ID5) and one of the following options, either Enhanced
Bluetooth with wireless charging (6NW) or Rear Seat Entertainment (6FR).

Apple CarPlay is optionally available via the ConnectedDrive Store for selected models produced from July or August 2016."

So it's EBT (£395) and Car Play (£230) to get it. Not sure it's worth it myself...

Rear Seat Entertainment (6FR)? Never heard of it, what is it (apart from the obvious of course)?

Just confirmed by my dealer - EBT is required.

So I've added it at £470 (for the X5).

Sorry about the quality the sun was in front of the car.

Incidentally the ipone camera will not work when CarPlay is working.

Carplay is not worth 470 + 230.

Have it, barely use it.

When you put it like that I totally agree. But EBT and wireless charging give some advantages don't you think?

With wireless charging though, you still need to place the phone "on" something - so it won't just charge when its in your pocket. In which case, if the wifi charging point is in the centre armrest and you need to place your phone "on" it to charge - then surely its just as easy to slot it into a cradle?

And apple don't support wireless charging so it all seems a bit daft with carplay (Apple) and wireless charging being in the same sentence

the wireless charging is a cradle! just like the old USB one. so not much gain there as you say. you can get wireless charging cases for iPhones, I have one.

Wow - so it does all just seem like money for old rope then - I didn't realise it was a cradle for the wireless charging too - really pointless IMHO

Yes, the only difference is you don't have to pysically insert a cable.

Or change the cradle when the next iPhone (7) is released.

Supposed to give better phone reception also.

Couldn't give two hoots about wireless charging and EBT can be coded for free!

Are you sure about this?

The 7 Series used a slid in holder as does the X3:

Perhaps the 3 Series is different and what you are referring to is the old 'Universal Wireless Charging Snap In Adapter'.

EDIT: Ignore the BMW case, better ones are available!
