Potential coding revelation - vehicle tracking!

Back at the start of the New Year I started a thread about my coding antics (http://www.f30post.com/forums/showth...=930827&page=3) which including one aspect I hadn't got around to testing:

"Enable 'Assist Stolen Vehicle Recovery' to be displayed on remote service"

Well it turns out after testing it today, I'm able to track my car using the remote app over distances greater than the regular 1.2km. I have so far tracked the car at 5.2km and 15km! What I'd like to do now is to share this for others to code and test - as I said back in January, this is a potential game changer for me.

The biggest challenge is that I'm not often that far away from my car so I need to test it either when I'm away or when my wife has the car (although she doesn't go far). I may take the train to work tomorrow just to test it out!

For anyone else wanting to give it a go:

HU_NBT > 3003 > ASSIST_SVR_SHOW > AKTIV

Handy for those needing to check where the wife really goes!

Those who go places they don't want the wife to know about, should ensure she doesn't know how to check!

I think they call it stolen vehicle recovery assist to put us off that scent!

This is awesome!

It could be the best thing you ever coded if your car gets nicked!

Excellent stuff. That's going on my list for my next coding session, along with separating the ambient lighting intensity from the instrument lighting.

Can you make the ambient lighting even brighter than standard? I feel mine are a tad low even at full intensity...

I've not done this but there seem to be endless options for lighting - I'll have a look when I get the chance.

Coding can separate from the dash lights so essentially you can have the ambient on max with the dash lights dim. What I've found is the ambient looks much brighter now since you're not blinded by the dash! I have mine set on classic red but also have coal red interior.

Do you know what hardware needs to be on the car for this to work Mark? I assume I am out of look with a retrofit because I can't register for BMW remote services

Good question, I guess you have all the hardware now but because the remote app works via the cats VIN I can't see how it will work. You may well be out of luck!

It probably needs a telematics box according to BMW when I tried to register. I think that only came on the latest cars.

What's that, a sort of burgundy colour?

Sorry, that was a cheap shot.

Meh...

To be accurate, its more of a blood red as a result of all the non believers I've disposed of...

I've not tried it, but apparently you can alter the max brightness here:
FEM_BODY > 3070 > AMBIENTE_HELLIGKEIT

The default setting is hex 64, which is 100%. I've read that you can increase this, but I've not tried it as I'm worried about burning out the leds. Try at your own risk and report back

Thanks Tonys. Maybe I'll leave it alone then. Can you add different colours? Blue for example or are the LEDs already coloured underneath?

I've not seen anything about changing the colours so I suspect that the leds are bi-colour, so you just have a choice of white or orange. I'm not sure that a colour like blue would go with the rest of the dash though unless you could also change the instrument lighting.

I think they're only bi colour as standard on modern, luxury, sport and m sport models
