Manual Rev Matching 340i

Hey guys,

Did some searching but couldn't find a definitive answer...does the manual in the 335/340 have rev matching? I saw that the M235 has one but not sure about the 3. Thanks!

Yep it's gonna have it. Thought it was disableable but just googled and some say the newer versions have it on all the time so can't give you any clarity about that. I know in the M3/4 that it depends on driving mode, believe it was disabled in sport mode.

From some of the reviews I've read if you already heel-toe rev match well than you won't even notice it. Unfortunately I was not able to test this out before I ordered my 6MT as my dealer doesn't stock any manuals, 340 or otherwise.

I used to heel toe on my old car all the time and got used to this within a week (if that's your worry). Sometimes I'll still rev match, but I actually really like the feature. But to answer your question I haven't seen in iDrive or the manual if you can disable it or not.

it will also hold the brakes for 2-3 seconds when on an incline or decline if clutch is still pressed in so you dont roll back or forth

My 2016 340i 6MT has this. As a manual driver for the last 47 years I can tell you it's not even noticeable. If you do it yourself it overrides. If not then no over rev on downshifts.

Don't waste another second even thinking about this because it is so innocuous.

Does it also maintain boost on upshifts, or just rev match on downshifts? I find lack of the former to be a bigger nuisance than the latter; you pretty much have to power upshift or your boost is gone by the time you apply throttle after your upshift.

That's really cool...my m3 DCT did that when you didn't have your foot on the break. Cool feature

It can be disabled by turning DSC off.

I must be the only person that does not like the rev matching. I wish it was like General Motors rev matching.

No but the automatic will keep boost through shifts

Not sure how to describe it. The BMW rev matches as you go into gear versus the GM system rev matches when you slide over through the gate. It matches much quicker & the RPMs are ready when you go into gear versus the BMW system you have to trick it to behave properly in my opinion (slowly start to engage gear wait for the rev match, then go into gear, this is assuming you never touch the gas)

Gm also allows you to shift without lifting off the gas pedal of course they cut the throttle which is a no-no when drag racing but...

For what it's worth, m235i doesn't have it. The m2 however will.
