If a fitter can't get that right, I'd be suspect of anything he does. I do see the lacquer as fragile (we know it is) and could already be lifting as it must do for corrosion to set in under the lacquer. The fact it's been on a balancer could be the trigger for further cracking/peeling/damage. |

My refurb's lasted just under a year and I've got a big milky looking spot around the centre badge now so this seems to be correct.
A bit pee'd off with it and thinking to go back to the place that refurbed it and see what they're willing to do. I thought about just getting them all powder coated but I want to part ex into something else in 12 months so probably leave it. Does put a bit of a downer on an otherwise immaculate car. Had a puncture repaired a few months back on another wheel and they removed the centre cap but there was no damage as far as I could see. There must have been some either within where the cap sits or just a slight disturbance as I've got tiny white spots in that area now. Not something I'd expect from a tyre change! Going in for a service in a few weeks so I'll see what the dealership have to say about that one. Love the way diamond cuts look but they're such a pain! |

Just not practical or durable, machine/diamond cut and lacquer never have been. Takes me back to Triumph Dolomite Sprints and Stags, same old problem.
Neighbour of mine bought a car with diamond cut wheels, asked for the wheels to be powder coated before he took delivery. He wasn't having them peel and corrode, like we see up here. Totally unsuited for the typical UK climate. |

Ideal world = new wheel as agree with above it will not be a perfect match unless they paint them all!
Real world = they will repair the damage only. I’d be firm but polite and inform of the evidence as provided by your fellow members and thus request a new wheel and see how you go. Nothing to lose and worse case scenario repair to your liking. Other option to accept cost of refurb and scource another mint wheel......sell yours......however going to cost you....... I suppose it depends how particular you are but it’s your call as each to their own, no right/wrong decision either way just personal preference. Good luck...... |

Thanks for all your replies folks, it's been very helpful in helping shape how I'll approach the situation.
By way of an update I took the car in on Saturday morning and the service advisor took some photographs and told me he'd pass them onto the service manager who would give me a call on Monday. Monday came and went, no call. I called them today (Tuesday) and explained nobody had called me. The service manager was still not available so I explained the issue to someone else who again said they'd pass the message onto the manager and he'd call me back. Guess what, its now end of play Tuesday and still no call. They're not doing much to demonstrate they're taking the matter seriously. With every passing day my frustration with them is growing and my reasonableness is dropping! I'll give them till lunchtime tomorrow and then Mr reasonable is going to start being replaced with Mr pretty pissed off! |
