The 4 or 6 are higher margin products for BMW -they are thrilled if a 4 series cannibalizes a 3 series sale. A 640 GC starts at 77k, the 535 is 55k.

You can bet the 4 series GC will probably command at least $5k on top of the F30 and that's going to be heavily based on the design of the car and not the content inside. The base prices of what BMW pays is going to be nearly the same. More margin = more profit = winning.

I'm holding out for the 2-door sedan.

Pretty much every test mule with camouflage is not superhot, it's not supposed to be.
Let's whine when the damn thing is official people, if it's that bad.
But seeing every BMW lately, expect for F25, i'd say this 4 GC is going to look excellent!

I don't understand the segment, what is a grande coupe? it's a sedan if you ask me. Just like the 5GT is a hatchback. Whoever BMW got for marketing is determined to make BMW like Audi.

Lol, if they can make the car look half as good as the 6-series GC by removing that camouflage they can start working on world peace after that.

Huh. I was really excited about this car based on what the 6-series Gran Coupe looked like. But the more that is revealed of it, the bulkier it looks. It doesn't have that sleek and refined character that the 6-series GC has at all. It looks more like a 4-series GT than a Gran Coupe.

They may take some sales from the 3 and 5, but it is better than losing sales to the CLA, CLS, A5 Sportback (outside US), A7, etc.

Quoting myself from the last 4GC thread...

Quote:
So, just for fun... Based on 2013 Q1 & Q2 Global figures....

6 series GC accounts for over 50% of all 6 series sales, with the Coupe doing about 25% and the Cabriolet picking up the remainder.
Sales of the two door variants dropped by ~2800 units, vs a gain of ~6470 units of the four door 6-er.
On either side of the 6er GC, the 5er Saloon increased volume by ~7380 units whilst the 7er saloon dropped by ~3410 units.

So.. it appears the GC models will be popular... but, are they increasing sales, or moving them about? It's simple cigarette-packet statistics, but the contribution to the sales numbers the 6GC made, maybe offset by customers moving from the Coupe or the Cabriolet, or to something sportier than a 7er...

... not to forget though that some of the customers will have been retained to the BMW brand rather than looking to a CLS or an A7.

Also, noticed that with over 10,000 units in this period the 5GT outsold any of the outgoing coupe or convertible 1's & 3's (bar the E92 which sold a few hundred more), and still outsells the Z4, and each 6er variant.

Like I say, there appears to be a market for these new models, people are buying them. So, is it that hard to make sense of a 4GC?

I'm still not getting how this isn't a 3 series....? If the 3ers have 4 doors and the 4ers have two and a topless option, what's the point of making this a 4er other than having a 3rd option in the model line...?

I get the 6er GC, it's a 6 series variant and it looks nothing like a 5er, they didn't try to split the 6 series lineup and spin the GC into it...

Call me crazy but doesnt it look more like a 4 GT than a GC? That rear roof slop and trunk are just awkward looking.

that front looks like a 4 years old F10 msport front stuck to an F30.

Love the car though. I'll stick with the sport line in mineral white.

doesn't look as good as i orginally thought...that stubby rear end would need some nice detailing on top of it...not the plain squared off look these cars all have now.

For those people who are still confused about this car, it is called "4-Series" because it has "4-Doors"
Is this equation easier to understand ?

I'm hoping that the 4 GC will look better when fully revealed, but the 6 GC is just on another level. The 4 GC roof line needs to be slightly lower to pull off the sleek looks of the 6 GC.

Meh. Doesn't look as different from the 3-series as the 6 GC does from the 5.

Both of which cost less. So even if it displaces some people who would have otherwise bought a 3 or a 5, they are now spending more money for a 4 or a 6.

I think BMW would even argue it adds sales to the brand by displacing people who would have otherwise bought an A5 Sportback, A7, CLA, or CLS.
