Great news, anything that knocks BMW’s image will mean they need to discount cars more heavily in order to maintain sales figures!

And of course affect residuals... Can't have it both ways!

Not really, the less new cars being sold means less used ones available in a few years time, which pushes residuals up!

Only if demand is there. There is enough suspicion on BMW long term reliability as it is, easy to scare used buyers away from a brand. Many folks believe BMW's 'premium' quality is overhyped as it is, these recalls don't help at all.

I've been around BMW for decades and I have questions regarding BMW engineering and quality. Mercedes cut corners a few years back, never did them any good, took years to regain their old reputation. Never got it back in some folk's minds.

I have had BMWs for a couple of decades and they are about as liable to having problems as the other main premium brands in my view, with Land Rover being the premium outlier. A recall like this has a very modest impact on my view. Denying the OBD car theft problem, denying the cracking alloy problem, or denying the Comfort Access problem all have a much greater impact.

These are complex machines and stuff will go wrong. The key test of quality for me though is when I turn up at the dealer with a fault, how do they deal with it. So far they have been pretty impressive and as long as they remain willing to correct even minor faults (seat bolster wear, the very start of white worm, a creaking seat...) without question, that's good enough for me. When my cars reach 3 years old, they are pretty much indistinguishable from new, as they will have replaced anything showing signs of wear.

If they start to quibble, I'll try another brand.

Currently sat at the dealer waiting for the recall work to be done. They said that they'll fix both recall issues. If the more second recall work needs replacement parts etc then they'll need to keep the car for 7/8 days

Been told that if all goes well it'll be an hour or so.
