I thought NY was like Jersey...a flat $35-ish registration fee?

From what I hear, Cali is the worst for vehicle registration. I've just been spoiled living in NJ, NC, and FL.

Closer to 200 but it was the state income tax that I would rather have CO than NY.. Far offsets the extra $1000 in vehicle registration.

Both of those states are bad for taxes, come up to NH and avoid the taxes altogether! Reg fee is a little pricy but no taxes.

Ergonomic issues:
1) When wanting to bring down my drivers side window, I have accidentally hit the rear window countless times.
2) I have issues seeing the miles odometer. The top part of the steering wheel mount gets in my way.
3) Can't see the auto-wipers light.
4) Exterior mirrors could be a little larger. Not the exterior but the actual glass.

Other than that, the best car I have ever owned

I am one American who likes the E9x cup holders. They work fine for me and hold everything I have dared to put in them. I have noticed though that if you put a typical 16 or 20 oz. drink bottle in them, it jostles around and can fall out because the diameter of the holders is too great to hold them snugly. I think that's the reason for all the complaints about the cup holders. It couldn't possibly be because their diameter was insufficient for only the 32 oz. size drinks wouldn't fit. I drink mostly Vitamin Water, Life Water and Gatorade, and the cup holders hold those bottles quite snugly, as do they hold well my car coffee cup.

There are some folks who I've found put things there and leave off the lid and then complain because the liquid spills. Well, even BMW can design for stupidity.

In the F30, I hate the driver's side door pull. It intrudes into the space my left knee wants.

EDIT:
I forgot to mention that the one other thing I do drink while driving -- McDonald's sweet tea -- no longer fits in the cup holders. It's a huge ass cup of tea and it's too tall to fit in the space provided in the F30.

The other thing I hate is the limitation BMW has put on the interior color combos one can get with the various lines.

Same gripe with auto-wipe as well as the light on heated steering wheel. But I like the fact that the heated seats and wheel resume if you stop the car for only a short period.

It was on the E9x as well.

The upside is that you know when you turn it on and you don't have to muck around with the windshield wipers after that; if it stops raining, they'll stop wiping. So I can live with not seeing that little green light in my peripheral vision, which I'm certain if one could see it, someone would complain about it being distracting. LOL

I don't mind it. It's silly, but with red seats inside, it's not bad at all.

What I do mind is that they don't offer blue seats to match the blue stripe on the M-Sport variant. With Black seats, the blue stripe is like "ok, why do I need a blue stripe across the dash?" Without red seats, the red stripe is much the same IMO.

I think this is a useful thread.

If nothing else, it makes clear that there's really nothing substantively wrong with the F30 when a bunch of incredibly picayune people are complaining about waving feet and whether or not the turn signals are LED or not.

I am an e90 owner but wanted to see what you guys were thinking. Very good feedback I think so far.

What I am really disappointed in is the fact that the cruise controls are moved to the steering wheel. I use the lever under turn signal pretty much all the time. Can't stand steering wheel controls. Don't know if it is like this on certain trim levels...

I'd trade you NY's for CA's. On top of those our sales tax is now 10.25% and there is a gas guzzler tax ($1,000-$7,700) on any vehicle that achieves less than 22.5mpg combined.

Yeah, CA about the only place worse than here. Not by much but NY is bad enough. People in NYC actually have it worse once you add the local tax.

Gas guzzler is a federal tax. You guys pay it twice?

Haven't been to NY since it was a dirty scummy city. But since then I heard it's gotten much better. I'd like to see Freedom Tower once it's erected.

Re. gas guz. tax. I didn't know it was a federal tax, just seemed so Californian. We have so many smog regulations it's ridiculous.

So you haven't been to NYC since the 1980's?

Yup, Federal. Maybe Cali has their own double tax?

I think California brought it back to life but we all face it now. Oddly enough, I avoided it on a V8 Audi S5 by getting an automatic, was ever so slightly better mpg than the stick, just enough to avoid it.

Exactly right. Probably late 80's I believe.

I could have sworn the tax was like 2300 for the M3, then it was only 1200. I guess that's when it went from state to federal. woohoo!

Don't really intend to beat a dead horse but....
First of all BMW put the steering wheel heating button in an awkward place.
Plus I actually realized very recently that the button actually has a led when it is turned on.

So next time while driving if you are not sure if the heating is on, just peek and look at that light. (It is impossible to do it without landing yourself into a very dangerous situation since you will need to turn the steering wheel and bend over to view that LED)

BMW could have avoided that LED and passed on that $0.02 savings to us.

Another point: The navigation maps are horrible. At most zoom levels it does not show the names of most of the major roads. I am as lost with the navigation as without. Panning is also too slow. My Honda's navigation was light years ahead.

Get the latest maps update, it's a big improvement.
