2012 3-series (F30) Sedan Out Testing in Blue
BIMMERPOST NEWS 2012 3-series (F30) Sedan Out Testing in Blue As the E90 3-series' production comes to an end this October, attention has already been shifting to the next generation F30 3-series sedan. Here, BMW continues testing of the next generation 3-series (F30) sedan. It seems that the amount of camouflage has remained at this level for a while now, but new colors continue to appear on the FEP prototypes. The F30 3 series spied here looks to be in Deep Sea Blue Metallic or the new Midnight Blue color introduced on the F20 1-series hatchback. This new wheel design has been spotted multiple times on F30 prototypes, so we expect it to be the premium 19" wheel option. F30 begins production in November 2011. The 2012 Model Year will run until June 2012, upon which point it will switch to the 2013 Model Year. Sales will begin in Europe around the time of its world public premiere at the 2011 Geneva show - in March, 2012. US sales should begin next Spring. The F30 3-series will debut as 328i and 335i models. The 328i will be powered by the 'N20' turbo 4-cylinder inline engine (as found in the Z4 28i and 2012 528i, and the 335i by a turbo 6-cylinder inline motor). That does in fact look like a corona ring fog light. Good catch.
Car looks great so far, does anyone else think those wheels look a little uninspired though?

Shape is 100% BMW, especially from the A-pillar back. The rear reminds me of E60 from certain angles which I love! Glasshouse may be a tad too tall in relation to the rest of the body.
The front is a mixed bag. Too low and squashed, it bends down too abruptly, as if it crashed on something head on. The grille is small and not very imposing and the headlights are still an unknown as we don't know the exact shape and there still too much space between them and the grille. |

Well I would think that the 328 will now use the 4 cyl N20. So it would be up from the 230HP to 241hp and 258lb-ft. I wouldn't be surprised if the new 335i is at 320HP and 332lb-ft to match the current special editions coming out.
I hope in the second year we will see something better than the 335i. Just as the 335i replaced the 330i in 2007 from 2006 in NA. |

i think shape will be nice. so is the color. however, is it me or they just look bloated? like 5 series kind of shape / size. i am hoping the weight will stay about the same but the size of that thing tells me that 3 series might lose that nimbleness as generations go by...

Those wheels will be a pain to clean. I hate the narrow gap spokes. Otherwise, car looks pretty good, although I think anyone who has a good-running E90 may not feel compelled to trade for the new F30.

The more I see this car, the more I like it. I think that I will end up with a 2013 F30 328xi. I really hope that they don't screw up the front though like the new 1er. I wouldn't be happy about that.

I want black and white swirls for my car so everyone thinks I am testing the latest thing.

I'm not feeling it so far. The shape is just bland. That abrupt front end doesn't help. (I still don't know what Europeans were thinking when they passes that law.)
Hopefully, it will look better sans camo. But, the mirror signals cannot be that large and corona fog lights? Please no.

And I don't think those are corona fog light rings. It looks to me like it's just the sunlight hitting the camo around the fog lights just right to illuminate a circular shape. The fog lights are not on.
