Precondition Timer

Afternoon peeps,

Does anyone use the remote iPhone app to hear their car up?
If so any tips/idiots guide on how this works would be most welcome!

So far I find it very hit and miss, and more miss if I'm honest. It certainly doesn't heat the car and that's if the data transfer from the app is successful.

I also programmed from the Idrive and checked the car, all it seems to do is blow cold air???

Yeah it blows cold air, I believe UK cars don't have the auxiliary heater needed to heat.

Just a guess but wouldn't the car need something like the Webasto pre-heaters to actually carry out this function. And as far as I'm aware they're not an option over here.

International site, not an option over here as said. We dont have the climate to warrant it I think is the stance by many manufacturers.

Oddly it's on my wife's Touran but there was absolutely no mention of it in the brochures, on VW's website or at the time of purchase.

First I knew about it was plumes of smoke coming from under the car on start up one cold morning. Cue panic.

Handy to have though. The interior does warm up very quickly.

Car seems to heat up pretty quick, i.e. blowing warm(ish) air about a minute after driving off. Not had any issues with BMW Remote getting commands to the car but yep, precondition of limited use in UK.

OK, so looks like there is little point to this in the winter, maybe of use on a hot summers day, all 2 of them!

That's about the size of it. In fact on a hot summer's day you're probably better off just doing the unlock/hold thing to open all windows/sunroof as you unlock the car, then just manually pop the A/C on as you get in. The few times I did use the precondition option this summer, the car was still stuffy when I got in... just with the fan going!
