The R&T kit, including EDC delete modules, was ~£3K plus fitting. Not cheap but I'd gladly pay it again if I was doing another project car.

NISFAN rates the Bilstein, Tengo likes the ACS RS and I'm a fan of the Ohlins R&T - any of those is going to be a huge improvement. Let us know what you choose and how it goes

I'm most likely going for the Bilsteins. For my uses, I don't think I can justify the price of the ACS RS or the Ohlins R&T. And the Bilstein seem to be sitting square on in terms of good quality and also value (relatively speaking).

---------

Can someone please let me know if this the kit I need? And I can trust this place?

I like the RS but I only have it because I got it used for a good price. Otherwise I'd have gone Bilstein same as Nisfan, or maybe just a set of decent passive dampers.

I've gone Bilstein on the Boxster too.

Bilstein UK are very helpful. Try calling them and asking about UK vendors.

I just now wish I hadn't chosen a car with adaptive suspension, perhaps saved a little cash and gotten crappy suspension and used that money towards what I'm eventually going for.

I understand Primary and Secondary ride, and as far as I am concerned, both need to be of high standards/quality to makeup for a complete setup.

My previous car, E90 MSport passive suspension, was not too bad for the twisties but it's secondary ride was appalling!! When I jumped into this car, that immediately stood out and was better and had me in awe. It was only when I went out in the country roads to see what it could do did I realise the mistake I had made of buying a car with adaptive suspension.

How much were your Ohlins?

I'm quite honestly considering the B16 Comfort ones, I think they will suit my needs.
The adaptive shocks are actually pretty good when paired with decent springs! One of the tuning companies actually recommended not changing them.

So which are the best springs for an S drive with adaptive (on 18s if that makes any difference)?

Oh. You've halted me in my sprint there. So ACS alone with the standard adaptive dampers, should be good for spirited drives?

put it this way, its the cheapest option to start with, and if you find they live up to the hype they will always sell on here.

I would say spend £600 to save £2k initially. that's a lot of wonga for brakes, tyres fuel, holidays, beer, you name it its till £2k.

Sorry, IMO and experience it's a real compromise.

The ACS + adaptive is OK but really only OK. Yes the ride height is reduced and the springs are a good compromise regarding spring rate for daily driving, but the dampers and EDC do not work comfortably on a spirited drive along a typical lumpy, bumpy back road.

Of course it depends on what you want to achieve, but if you do want a suspension setup that will help to transform your car I'd still suggest going to decent coilovers.

I'm not sure I am following this. You are still on crap SE springs. How do you know your adaptive dampers are a problem?

If I were you I would change the springs on their own, then live with the car for a while.

Sorry I should have made it clearer. Prior to buying my car, I didn't realise the adaptive suspension came with SE springs. So my mistake was thinking that the MSport trim with adaptive suspension would have MSport springs. Does that make sense?

So I emailed them last night, and I have been informed that the correct kit is "49-255980"

This is different than the kit number you gave (48-229012).

Still awaiting further information.

49-255980 is the currently unavailable damptronic for x-drive.

48-229012 is the komfort passive kit for s-drive.

See here for 335xd Bilstein.

If I was getting a garage to do the work, I'd let them supply the parts too...

Yes, however you are a wee bit off - xDrive cars come with SE springs, whether MSport or not. So the Adaptive Dampers are not the source of that problem.

S Drive MSport cars - I don't know if Adaptive Suspension means SE springs. I would have thought not, but someone will know for definite.

I personally have found the combination of ACS springs and Adaptive to be ok, although most of my miles are motorway.

Yup, haha, again, you've corrected me, and what you said is actually what I meant to say. Just as well you're here eh

(I normally don't make so many mistakes when I'm expressing my thoughts... )

Why would the rep from Bilstein give me a kit number for a product that doesn't exist? I can only assume he is training?

Bilstein assign part numbers to products that are in development. The existence of a part number doesn't mean that product is available.

Your options for B16 on a 335d xDrive are:

48-207287 B16 PSS10

48-245463 B16 PSS10 Komfort (as above but lowering in 10-30mm range)

49-207323 B16 ridecontrol (same as first but with electronic damping adjustment)

The 48-245463 comes up as a B16 PSS9, not PSS10?

Definitely PSS10. I don't think they make 9 any more, and certainly stopped making 9 before F series chassis. Probably a typo.

To double check, go to : katalog.bilstein.de/

Choose : browse online catalog (top right of screen) then enter your car details. Suspension kits is the option.
