BMW Connected Update

So I just updated to the latest iOS version of BMW Connected App and noticed that I can put the last 7 of a VIN I found online of a new 5 series. It let me get all the way to registering it. I didnt hit submit but found that quite odd. I just wanted to see the new features. If i would have registered, would it have let me control the car?

Hmmmm. Very good point. I suspect that the answer is yes!
Very scary.

no, it won't let you update unless you're the listed owner on the vehicle. i just bought a 2014 and i had to call bmw to register my info under the car, they wanted registration and insurance with my name listed.

you probably got all the way there, but when you try to input your address, it won't let you.

You can unlock any BMW just by calling the number on the windshield and giving the VIN. They will ask for a passcode, but most people have the default passcode and changing it over the phone doesn't require the old passcode. I imagine there are other loopholes like this.

Nope won't let you register the car.

When I registered mine it sent a code to the car in order to finish the registration you will need this code.

Unless you can guess the 6 digit code then no.
