Any opinions either way? Looks like performance wise they should be on par, although it seems the lexus has won some comparisons.
I know they are supposed to be similar cars, I don't see it. A BMW is a different animal. I would never cross shop a BMW with a Lexus, Audi, yes, Lexus, not happening.

Cool story. You're still in no position to pretend like a Lexus is below you.

And, no...one nice car and four beaters does not constitute a "stable."

Lexus's are generally just plain weak compared to BMWs, not as sporty and not as fun on a daily basis. The 3 series is superior to the IS line. Go drive them and you'll see. Their interiors may be "nice", but I don't like the design schemes nor the materials as much as the Germans.

Between these 2, I would strongly suggest the 328; turbo vs NA all day IMO and the 328 will outperform with a simple plug and play tune, particularly in low end torque which matters the most for a daily driver!

You either love or hate the Lexus, but I like it as it always makes me turn my head when I see one. It's striking, different, and fresh but looks are subjective. Ignore the fanboisms and buy what you like. A lot of the replies here are nonsense.

Look at the C&D review and others. Test drive them and buy what you like.

No the IS350 is not faster than the 328i, I would say neither one is faster than the other

See here

And here

I would expect the 328i to be faster when the roads get curvy

I'm going to drive both of then back to back. I would like a 335i, but tought to find a certified one with all the bells and whistles that I can still afford. The closest one is basically 44k+ dealer fees and they are not willing to move on the price - believe me I have tried. Right now, I think I am going with the 328i, assuming the dealer works with me on the price. My thoughts are the 328i will be more fun to drive, more uniquie, and in the color I want. The 350 I believe will be more comfortable, a little nicer inside, heavier but also a little more expensive - higher asking price and no maintenance plan, also no extended CPO warranty.

The 328i seems to be optioned exactly how I want which has been very tough for me to find. Additionally, just noticed in the build out sheet that it has m brakes in blue !! incing on the cake. Hopefully the dealer will work with me.

I've driven both, but I honestly would have picked the IS350 F Sport over the 328i if the exterior was not as weird looking. IS felt more refined, premium and tighter in corners. The 8-speed transmission on the BMW shifts faster, you have better low-end torque in the BMW, as well as a more prestigious badge. You gotta drive both for 20 minutes to see what clicks for you, but seems like you are already bit by the BMW bug.

If Lexus is a Toyota, then are Humans considered Monkeys?

I will just add that I had a 2003 IS. Putting aside all the debates on performance, looks, fun factor, prestige etc...one thing you can consider is that the Lexus will very likely be more reliable down the road and cheaper to service if/when you do need it. Other than routine maintenance I've never had a single issue and it was never in the shop for anything. We still have it at 100k miles and it's still running strong with no issues.

An Infiniti?? That's just a Datsun.

It is hard to find preowned msports. Go for it if you get a good deal.

Lexus cars are nice - however not as nice and head-turning as BMW.

I always get compliments on the looks of my 328i MSport. I recommend the BMW.

The Msports look much nicer than the typical 3-series due to the more aggressive bumpers and wider rear tires.

I had previous gen BMWs. However, I can say that this newer gen of BMW is quite refined and I will likely buy it at the end of the lease. Already have 40k miles on my MSport, zero issues.

Just to clarify one thing, from about every review I've seen, the Lexus is supposed to be more fun to drive than the BMW. So if you want a sporty car, the Lexus is probably the car to get. But try both and you'll see and don't forget to test both cars stability on bumpy curves. The BMW is really bad in this situation.

I test drove both cars before buying the 335i xDrive that I currently have and I must say that the Lexus IS 350 F sport is less sporty and fun to drive than BMW 3 series. Is has a nice cabin and the F Sport has a digital LFA type dash "really coo looking" but is does not handle as well as the BMW 3 M sport.

Meh the new IS has rather polarizing styling, not sure how well it'll age. The only people who compliment my car are other BMW owners but I don't buy a car to see how many compliments I can get.

I think this is a spot on critique and pretty much mirrors how I feel.

Much more substantial critique than the stupid "It's just a Toyota" comments.

I also think iDrive is one of the best infotainment systems on the market, which is ironic because back in 2007 when I cross-shopped a newly redesigned Infiniti with a 335i, I was extremely frustrated with iDrive. The system isn't perfect today by any means but it's leaps and bounds better than what it used to be.

I thought BMW maintenance coverage is only offered when you buy new and is nontransferable?
