Software Update
So I've read a number of threads about software updates for various things
How do you know if a car has had the latest updates? Is there a way for the user aka me to find out without having to search through the various threads and test functions? I presume a dealer can simply plug in and check? Perhaps we can get people to reply to this thread with what upgrade they had done and why (be it a fault repair or otherwise) so we can easily highlight what our cars might need... Cheers

I believe there are several different software packages for different capabilities. Only the idrive software can be updated by the user, and all others are done by the dealers.
For idrive, it is trivial to check your version and the latest available version. I do not believe it is possible for the end user to determine the versions of other software unless you have proper CAN cabling and relevant instruments. Is there standard practice in the dealers to upgrade the software of the boxes, without user request? |

Got my November build 2 days ago and it did not have the latest connected drive update installed. I did it myself last night. Other than that, not sure. I suppose you could always calls your SA and give him the last 7 of your VIN and he can advise further.

I believe, but cannot confirm as it may differ from market to market, that one way of telling is that when you put your car into Reverse, the door handle lights will illuminate to maximise visibility. At current, mine doesn't do this as it is May 2012 build and has not yet had it's first service performed at the dealership.

Definitely behaving myself. Right now just getting used to all the changes from the E90. Having fun analyzing the ride settings and how they impact the DHP. Sport+ with DHP really tightens up the steering and ride. Kinda perfect. I didn't notice the same tightening of the steering on the non DHP car I drove last month. I do wonder if its totally the DHP that is responsible for the better steering or if its the new steering rack/steering column in November+ builds. No time for me to start testing other cars plus I think my CA will quit if I put him through more of me. |

What's the newest version? When I put my VIN in that site, it says my car is up to date.

Maybe AH3 and other cars with the New Nav have the combox integrated into the Nav hardware? Just a guess. realoem.com may tell the story. Check in iDrive when your car arrives. It was a simple update to perform. Took 5 minutes from download on PC to installed in car. |

MX 3.5.4 and TX 3.5.5 are pretty old, I updated my M3 to those versions this last summer. I call this one the iOS 5 update, even though it came out around iOS 6. |

Well, my PW45 car had an older version. SamS, check this out regarding new Nav. No doubt bugs exist as we've already heard with the inaccurate mapping in UK and it seems there may be more. http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=781614 |

A CA told me he's had a couple problems with the new Nav when pairing customers phones to the system during deliveries. He mentioned sporadic reboots and customers complaining about BT issues. He did say overall it works OK. I'm quite sure that as the new Nav evolves, it will be way better than it is today. That said, I feel fairly confident that BMW will draw a line in the sand and not provide many future software updates (feature updates) to older cars. Its too expensive for them to regression test and also doesn't give them an opportunity to "upsell" people into newer models. i.e. the new/current combox introduced in 3/2010 but BMW apps not being added until 9/2010 (i thinks that's correct!?!). Also near future cars will get the new touch iDrive controller. Once that new touch iDrive controller comes, the focus will be on updates that utilize the touch interface. Its a reality of software development. I've got 15 years experience in that biz. Then, who knows whats next... |

I think the CIC Nav will still have a few more updates. After all, it will be used through MY2014 for the E70/E71, and probably MY2015 for the E84 X1. |
