Hi Team,

Does anyone know if Apple Car Play integrates with BMW steering wheel buttons? When in Carplay mode, can you answer/end call from steering wheel button just like when in BMW handsfree ?

My F30, the steering wheel button don't work when in car play mode. Only way to answer/end the call is via iDrive controller. Not sure if this caused by iOS 11 beta or by design ?

I read on a forum from a user that say it works and next user says it doesn't.

UPDATE: Just downgraded from iOS 11 beta 1 back to iOS 10, and steering wheel buttons work in CarPlay Mode as expected.
Its a iOS 11 beta bug, which is expected for beta

But I have BT always on. I tried rebooting phone, and did not help.

Another reason I don't like carplay. The other being that it's not yet wireless on F30, and you can't use Waze or Google Maps with it.

Yeah you should downgrade out of beta 11 and try it. I used to do the beta version on my phone in the past, but then you're always on the beta until you revert back even when IOS11 releases, you'll be on the beta for the next version.

My iPhone connect to Carplay wireless to F30. There is Usb connection but have not tried it.

Agreed, I have been on beta for while and on-going
Never saw the need to back to public release but if ios 10.x fixes the controls, then maybe I will but want to be sure it works in 10.x

I'm going to test with my mom's iPhone running 10.3.1 to see if that resolves the issue.

Do you have CarPlay on your 340i?

They work. But you have to hold it down for like 2 seconds for you to engage Siri. If you hit once quickly it will use bmw connected drive.

You can use the scroll button to skip songs with car play. Not sure about the phone part. Honestly I use the idrive controller but will try it out for phone calls. I think it works well. Not perfect, but well

So you can use the scroll button to answer calls or to decline the call, but the telephone button doesn't do anything except for disconnect the phone I think. But otherwise I'd say it's fairly well integrated.

The 2016 doesn't have car play I believe, and it's a $300 option in 2017 and after. My car doesn't have it, though I think in 2018 in may be wireless car play. I use bluetooth for streaming, I can see album art and advance or go back on the track, it's pretty good actually. I'm using BMW Nav and send destinations from Google Maps on my phone to the car.

It's wireless but most manufactures haven't added wireless capability into the head unit so most cars including most bmws are wired only.

my brother's 2017 F32 is fully wireless via BT. I won't be getting it on my 18' F36 but it seems to work just fine. By the way my brother also has an ipod classic connected as well and he can flip flop from the ipod to his music in his phone with out any issues.

That's bluetooth, not car play, which uses wi fi direct as more bandwidth is needed for it to work. I also have bluetooth and can see spotify album art and song title as well as play time on the i Drive in addition to being able to use the scroll wheel to advance to the next track or go back on my amazon music app.

No it's CarPlay but you don't have to connect your phone with a cable to make it work
His car is a 2017 built in January 2018

I don't use a cable to connect my phone via bluetooth but that does not make it car play. Can you see your iphone home screen icons on the i drive? If not that is not car play.

Of course. It let's you see some of the apps of your phone home screen.

It might be wireless on the 2017 or 2018 as I said earlier, not sure if the 3 series has it wireless as the G30 was the first to have it in the entire industry. But it is not bluetooth and is using wi fi direct.

I can confirm my 17 f30 carplay is wireless. Phone does not need to be wired to use CarPlay in the car.

If my memory serves right, Bmw new 5 series (last yr) introduced wireless car play into the market, and then started to appear on 3, 4 series etc.

You cannot use BMW Bluetooth and Carplay at same time. The phone needs to disconnected from BT to use CarPlay or vice versa.

Yes, I see the standard 6 icons from iPhone home screen( phone, messages, music, iBooks etc)
