LOL if either one is off, then the other has to pay for the return shipping...no wait, I think I might end up with the short end of that stick

Yeah, after looking at it tonight, it'll be tight, but the suspension (especially the struts) have such a rapid and tight rebound, I'll be very surprised if it's an issue given the camber that's naturally dialed in...and if it is, I'm hoping $99 mistake would be the least of my worries.

LOL yeah mine will be a 2.5K mistake, excluding fitting. Can't see myself wanting to return it though

On M perf suspension you will be 1/2" higher compared to H&R sport, plus you should have less body roll, so I can't see that rubbing.

I've not used spacers on the front, but would be reasonably confident 12mm will work.

Of course we're talking mm's here, so obviously the tire and its sidewall play a big role.
Hope you don't mind, I'm just not sure if your math is right...

With 8.5" et47 (400M), the centre of the wheel will be 13mm further IN compared to the 8" et 34 (397). With the additional 0.5" of the wheel, it will have extra 0.65mm on both inside AND outside. So the overall effect will just be 13mm - 6.5mm = 6.5mm, i.e., the 400M wheel will appear 6.5mm further IN compare to the 397 wheel.

Please correct if I am wrong.

Hey guys, spoke to Burgertuning before I ordered, turns out no more than 12mm all around to be safe with the lowered suspension...I'll post pics, they were helpful, so I hope it sorts out!

Ordered a nice set of Jack pads too (lol), my Evo never had these jacking issues...so Euro.

Yeah you are correct, 1/2 of that 13mm will be on the inside. The 8.5" wheel at ET47 will sit 6.5MM further in compared to my 397s. The wider tire however probably negates that, so still nearly identical as far as clearance goes I think.

Look forward to the pics Shiv.

Interesting. i was told by Burger that only a 5mm and 15mm will fit the rear hub unless you shave a couple millimeters off the hub lip.

Yeah that's what I remember reading. Well, I'll give it a try, and if it doesn't work out, they'll have to take it back + shipping since it was their recommendation!

Well good luck. Keep us posted. A 12mm in the rear would be ideal for sure. I tried a 10mm non-hub-centric spacer one time and it looked near perfect.

Just put the rear's on...no rubbing, all is good, and plenty of clearance.

12mm is PERFECT for the 397's...I would say probably same for the 400M's too...

Here's the separate thread with pics...

Here's my car with H&R Sport Springs.

That is the first Alpine White 335i (with good quality pics) I have seen with OEM 401's on the H&R Sport's.. beautiful! I have the 18" sport line on my F30 335i sport line and have been considering getting the springs and new rims; but after seeing your car, I may sell my stocks and find a pair of 401 take offs!

H&R sports with the stock 18" sport lines just does not seem to sit right, so I am going to get the wheels before springs (or m-perf suspension.. they should sit about the same right?). 19" fills the gap so much better.

Did you have any spacers in those pics?

My opinion:

Yes, my pics below are with spacers and springs installed.

My opinion:
10mm in front is perfect, 15mm in rear is a bit to aggressive but flush with my stock bubble tires. With different tires it could be perfect.

12mm would have been perfect but H&R only makes 5mm, 15mm & 20mm for rear. 5mm, 10mm, 13mm, 15mm, 20mm front. 12mm rear is supposedly not safe but some have done it anyway with different brands. You can read why by searching this form.

H&R Sport springs:
I feel less body role, slightly stiffer but comfortable and the sport drop looks sporty and classy. My car has not bottomed out on big pumps but my biggest issue is with small road fluctuations. The front end seams to bounce a bit. Bounce is a little to strong a word but its bad enough that I will eventually change to coil overs.

Overall I'm happy considering the look for the low cost.

There is a seller in the Classified that is selling his 401s with Bridgestone Potenzas... cheap and brand new. I was going to pick them up, but decided I will probably go down to 18" wheels.

As far as the M-Pref Suspension being the same drop as H&R Sport, that is not the case. The M-Pref Suspension will lower it 10mm more than the US Spec Sport and M-Sport Suspension. The H&R Sport Springs will lower the car about 24mm more than the US Spec Sport and M-Sport Suspension. Again, this is only on the US Spec 335i.

A US Spec 328i on M-Pref will still lower the car 10mm more than the US Spec Sport and M-Sport, but the US Spec H&R Sport Springs will lower it less than 24mm in the front due to the lighter engine.

Basically, in the USA, we only get the 335i H&R Sport Springs. In the EU, they get different H&R Sport Springs for the 328i and the 335i. Hope this makes sense.

As far as ride quality vs performance, it's up to you. IMO, the performance gains of lowering the car is a moot point since most people won't drive their car at it's limit. However, if you do drive your car like that (hopefully only on the track), you should consider more than just swapping out springs. So for daily drivers, I always consider ride quality before performance; and H&R Springs alone will make the ride quality suffer. This is just my opinion and everyone's tolerance for what is acceptable will differ. Hope this helped.

thanks for the tips and I agree.. I just joined the BMW CCA and will hopefully do some courses soon, so I may hold out for M suspension or some coilovers.. I just cannot stand my current ride height with the 18" rims, too much Camry for me.

If I were to really get into autox, i would probably get a lightweight set of 18" arc-7's or something similar, but for daily driving, the 19's are pretty.
