sport + exhaust burble

Has anyone else noticed the exhaust burble specifically in sport + mode? put in sport +, put in manual rev quickly to about 3k and let off gas. i have played with it, and it is clearly louder in this mode. curious what is changing that allows this to happen. also i think this is because in my regular sport mode i have it set to only affect suspension(dhp) I love the sound, i know others have been talking smack about some of the new popping sounds etc with the new transmission. sorry if this has been talked about, i searched!

I think the conclusion so far is that people are detecting a distinct change in exhaust's burble and note when switching to Sport/Sport+, but there is no clear reason as to why it is happening.

I'm not exactly convinced that it is Sport/Sport+ doing it, though I admit I have not tested it thoroughly. The reason for my doubt is that the car, in general, feels weaker when cold. On a 26F day, the car feels like it is struggling on the first start. Once the car is warm, it comes alive and wants to go faster and faster. It feels playful instead of sluggish. Like a puppy jumping at the end of the leash.

This is as we would expect: a cold engine is not going to perform at its peak. But because the car has a turbo, I feel like the ECU is bypassing it either largely or completely so as not to harm the components while they are coming up to temperature. This "detune" could explain a relative lack of exhaust burble and/or tone.

For whatever reason, I have never put the car into Sport mode when the engine is cold so I could not comment if the burble is there regardless of engine temperature. My guesses here are simply that, so I apologize if they are way off base. Also note that I am a total novice when it comes to this stuff.

I burble in DS (Comfort/Eco Pro/Sport) or Sport mode.

I have a manual transmission, and I only experience the overrun burble/pop when the car is Sport or Sport+. I have tested it under a wide range of conditions. I experience it at a standstill when revving the engine and letting off of the gas and also when I am in gear and engine braking. It is absolutely not there in Comfort or Eco mode. Overrun burble is excess unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust system, so clearly fuel delivery is changing at some point to create the burble sound. No one seems to know if it's merely a superficial change to make it sound sportier to the driver during overrun, or if there are other changes to engine operation across the rev range in Sport/Sport+. Many people claim that the only difference between Comfort and Sport/Sport+ is a more sensitive and less linear throttle response, but I haven't seen or heard that claim substantiated. All I know is the car makes a pretty cool sound in Sport and Sport+ and the throttle response is a hell of a lot more fun.

Here are two videos demonstrating the differences between Comfort and Sport/Sport+ (just a disclaimer, neither of these are my videos, but my car sounds the same):

Comfort mode at the beginning, change to Sport+ at 50 second mark...

In this video, it starts out in Comfort, no burble, then at 1:07 you hear the exhaust flap servo, still in Comfort, and it sounds the same. Then at 1:25 you can hear the difference after switching to Sport mode...significant overrun burble sounds...

DS in all modes WILL cause a burble in the 8-speed auto.

thanks for the response luke. to everyone else I know DS will cause a similar sound when SHIFTING. Me and luke are talking about unburnt gas getting sucked back in when you rev and let off of gas with sport engine settings.

I always here the burble in sport and sport+. Very noticable when backing off the gas and when shifting hard (I have 6MT). In comfort, it's there but a lot less noticable. I've never driven in ecopro mode. 90% of my time is spent in sport+. And the M-performance exhaust makes the burble SO much more noticable.

I don't have any burble or anything coming from my exhaust in any mode... Why is that?

Burble is present with golf-tee mod. I did that on the '09 335i. Then when I put on the M-Performance exhaust (and golf-tee mod) it was present all the time. Now with the new F30, same thing. M-Performance exhaust and golf-tee mod and it's always there (but not a noticable in comfort mode). Even with the stock exhaust, the golf-tee mod will make it more pronounced especially in sport or sport+

I think someone else mentioned here, that when you let your foot on the gas and then take your foot off, the burble noise is more prominent.

I just put a exhaust on my car, and even if I am in Eco mode, when I take my foot off the gas pedal to slow down for like a speed bump, it burbles loud and a lot.

Here are a few pics I took just real quick with my phone, so sorry about the quality..
