Cars, INCLUDING BMWs, are made for using, not preserving like a work of art...........too much OCD.............

Because its a dime a dozen BMW F30, not some rare 1960's Jaguar XJ. And I have 2 kids so thats off the table. Pets I agree with. Putting dogs in the car is disgusting. I'm totally not a dog person though, so whatever.

Liquids? seriously? Am I suppose to abstain from consuming coffee when Im sitting in LA traffic on the way to work? Insanity. Coffee, Howard Stern in the morning and not having to shift gears for myself as my near-perfect ZF 8 speed auto does all the work = 'sheer driving pleasure"

Food, I try not to eat in the car too much but sometimes it needs to happen. We live in our cars down here.

The 6mts also have a great crawl feature where the car will roll around 2mph and won't stall unless you come to a complete stop. When you start out again, all you have to do is release the clutch. No gas is needed.

Later model manual BMWs are hard to find because very few are available in the models, few order them, and those that have them, keep them because they know they have something special.
If I didn't live in Los Angeles, I might consider a manual again. Most cities are just endless intersections and stoplights and stop signs though, so probably not. If I lived somewhere rural, then yes.

Animals. Food is meant to be eaten at a table...with utensils and linens.

I satisfy my coffee addiction as soon as I wake from slumber, its a good way to start your day. I highly recommend.

This is why I try not to buy used cars. Dogs, smokers, you name it.. Yeesh. Dogs are fine, but not in the car.

When I sold my 2009 E90 6 speed, I had a ridiculous amount of interest. I had people emailing me months later asking for the contact information on the guy who bought it to see if they could buy it from them.

If you want an automatic, get a minivan.

I'm keeping my BMW for 10 years or longer. It's nearly five years old now. As a realist, I know my car halves in value every three years. By the time it's 10 years old, it'll be worth 10% of what I paid for it.

But as it's a unicorn 335i F31 with 6MT, I won't sell unless someone makes me an offer I can't refuse. At its anticipated market value in 5 years, I'm happy to keep it as a runabout when I get the next model M2; probably with 6MT if BMW still makes them.

The market for MT might be lean, but I'm damn sure those looking for one will be super keen.

Its amusing that you seem to think there is a correlation between the ability to drive stick and actually wanting a standard for your daily driver. I learned on a 4 speed VW bug when I was 15 and every car I had from then until the age of 36 were cars with a manual transmission. I did my time and in my humble opinion, as far as the F30 goes, have chosen the better transmission between the 2 choices, for what I need from a daily driver. Driving a car with a manual transmission in a city like Los Angeles, day in and day out is sheer tedium. Did it for over a decade.

I laugh when I meet people who can't operate a manual transmission but if you can, it aint some badge of honor. I learned how to do it in about a week, a year before I could get a license. While it is a skill that is nearly extinct, it's not surgery. There are a million taxi drivers in India at this moment rowing through the gears. Pretty sure they aren't 'driving enthusiasts'. So maybe try and ease up there, ultimate badass.

Exactly. I'm certain my M235 6mt, moonroof delete, ans LSD equipped will fetch more coin than a more standard and prevalent 8at. There will be fewer buyers but they'll be willing to pay more for it.

Last March when I was looking for a used F30 MT there were 6 for sale in Ontario. BMW Toronto had 2, a 2014 EBII 335i and a 2013 EBII 335i. I drove from Ottawa on the Monday and the 14 had already sold in a day. I bought the '13 the next day . Had to sell my 05 325i MT though. Still miss that car

Is this a seasonal thing or are people getting their hands on whatever they can?
I've been tracking the 6MT market for some time - at least 335s anyway. They are rare around here, and in general, but when something like a relatively low mileage CPO m-sport pops up they tend to sell pretty quick.

Used to be manuals were the quick way home. Those days are long over & they will continue to dry up except for nostalgia buffs as they disapear from new car sales.

They are already history is most pro sports car racing series so the high performance illusion has left the MT

Some 6MT people like to pat themselves on the back for being "real" drivers but driving a stick is no big deal.

Indeed...though many non stick drivers seem to think it’s a big deal. I’m amazed how many of them comment on the fact I drive stick when they get into my car.

But at the end of the day, the only reason to drive stick is if you still enjoy it. For me it’s a more engaging experience behind the wheel that brings with it the perception of greater control over the vehicle.

As they say, to each their own....

True that. I am hoping to pass on manual transmission driving to my son and daughter. Probably the last gen that would be able to drive a stick. Heck, it might be the last gen to actually drive a car!

My grand kids shifted my truck on the grammar school run & could both drive stick on my-son-in laws farm when they could reach the pedals.

My own 3 kids all took their driving license test on a MT & I have always had at least one stick since 1960, so its real hard to be impressed with guys on the internet bragging that they can drive stick & those who can't can't drive.

I can teach a driver how to drive a stick well in a few hours, did it on a regular basis in the Army.

They are fun to drive but would respectfully disagree you have greater control compared to a modern AT or DCT. Shifting an AT or DCT is so much smoother, faster & less upsetting to car at speed then with an MT.

If MT's were better for control top end racers would be using them.

The ratio of buyers for an AT version of your car is about 20:1 vs the MT. Good luck finding that buyer.

A manual is my strong preference in very slippery conditions, like snow. The control of engagement when shifting is inferior when the machine does it.
And then we have the fun & comfort factors too! Even in every day driving, not all shifts are the same.
