A nice sliding cover, looks like a treadmill, that rolls back into the console would have been cool.
Slide it open to use holders, slide it back when not in use.

Agree 100%

Also, not a fan of the temperature dial just below the center air vents. Seems redundant to have the ability to explicitly set the temperature of my A/C and then need to slide the dial to blue.

Since we're talking about the A/C unit, I wish there was a quick way to set the dual climate to the same setting as driver. I totally admit that I am OCD, but seeing 60 on the driver side and 65 on the passenger (without someone in the passenger seat) drives me crazy.

Yes Very irritating to have to set the temp twice. I was in a 2011 loaner a few months back and it had a "sync" button in place of the "rest" button that was on the right dial in previous years. I was all excited that they finally added a Sync button.... sad to see it didn't make it into the new model. In Audi you just hold down the Auto button to sync which is a great way to do it without adding another button.

RIP Sync Button
RIP LED Lights

I haven't got my car yet so when you guys say it can be coded to do all these certain things does that mean you can program them yourself or is this something you have to pay the service dept to set up???

The blue to red dial is something BMW has used for years. I think it disappeared for the E90 and they brought it back.

You don't have to do anything with it really.
It's like a "blend" setting.
For example, you may want greater heat on you or your passengers feet, but you don't want hot air on your face, but still want some air flow.
With the blend control you can use it so that the dash vents are cooler than what's blowing on your feet.

C'mon guys you're slipping - I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the most useless feature of all....

The badge on the boot lid that informs the driver behind you (who probably couldn't care less or more likely doesn't understand BMW's odd numbering system) what size engine you've got?

Is this going to be another contentious one?

the auto folding mirrors are just too cool, I don't see how you can't like them and if you don't then just leave them open all the time like a normal car.

Whoa! If someone were to start a thread about the most useful small feature on the car that little wheel would be my nomination.

If its winter and you're in your 500oz Down North Face Parka and after a few minutes drive the heat is making your feet and legs toasty warm but you need some fresh air on your face and chest you just twist that dial and it's done. No buttons, no iDrive fumbling, just turn the wheel.

Do the US spec F30's get bigger cup holders to fit the 1/2 gallon Super size drinks from McDonalds ? or do you have to use the door holder for them?

It's also useful for when you are feeling drowsy. Cold air on the face wakes you up.

When I'm coming home after a few hours in the VIP room it's a great way to air out my clothes of the smell of stripper.

Honestly I think the front bumper side cameras are pointless and useless. You cant judge anything with them, you cant tell if youre gonna smack into a curb it almost makes me crosseyed when I try to use it.

The only think Ive ever done is turn them on at a red light to check out a pair of rims on a car next to me. Pointless.

However, Rear backup camera and overhead view are fantastic to have. Use it everyday.

I do.

The Luxury models should have luxury gauges. Ambient light readings, decibel levels, leather suppleness, amount of people staring, cupholder temperature, that sort of thing.

I've only had my car for a few hours, but the "Oh shit!" grab handle above the driver is useless. I'll keep both hands on the wheel in those cases where the passenger is compelled to hold on.

These handles are for the elderly bmw drivers who can't otherwise get in and out of the car. ^^

extended black pannel display. I have it as part of professional nav but it as an option on its own it costs £250! All it does is make the instant MPG a digital guage!
