would have thought it would have been cheaper and easier to send them into Hull, which has a direct connection to the M62

I think, and this is my own assumption, the date has been pushed back as the Asian Breeze was 2 days late sailing due to the storm closing the Kiel Canal and trapping her in the Baltic Sea. This is the ship I am thinking our cars are on.

Given that the date is effectively 10 days from when the car is due to be in the country I think they're just allowing time to sort out the logistics of delivery. I can't imagine they'll be sitting around for that long as another two ships are due within the next 7 days.

You never know, with a lot of luck your car could be loaded on a lorry tomorrow and at the dealership on Wednesday.

Can you sense the optimism of someone who has been waiting nearly 4 months?
No,no,no....they had so many crazy discounted 335d's in the UK, they had to get all the QA quarantined components together to build a 'special batch' on budget. This takes time

ha ha ha... hang on, you're referring to mine too there! Git.

@steddyman
"Bit more research, I think it is the Independence II that will be bringing our cars to the UK. It departs Bremerhaven today and arrives in Southampton on the 12th" Thanks yes yes yes! that sounds plausible.

Hmm, Southampton's only 45mins down the M3 for me, I wonder if I'd see anything if I found a good vantage point...

But to get his full approval, you'll need to change it for a petrol.

He's coming around actually- considered buying my E90 330d from me! In fairness he'd take your 535i over a diesel 3 any day if he could justify it.

No longer is diesel just a stinking oil only fit for tanks and trucks!

Well they're quoting a delivery date of the 20th but I'm still hoping they will collect it personally on a truck so it arrives earlier. I've asked for a saturday collection due to work commitments though...

I know the last time we talked cars, he said he couldn't really justify upgrading for his mileage. He was a bit shocked when I traded the 540i for a diesel.

Only had a quick few words when down with the 535i, so never got to the small talk. I know Colin was surprised I'd gone back to petrol, shame I couldn't get the car from Grassick's this time, but the deal was too good to miss.

Hope your car arrives on time, read the urgency for getting it before the end of year.

The 20th is the delivery date to the dealers. They then need to prep and fit the PDI in. I also need to have it detailed before collection which takes a whole day.
That's why I've got them to collect it for me to make sure I have it for my holiday...which I leave for on the Sunday afternoon!!!

He still can't so he'll stick with his 525i. He'd have been bonkers to change when he has a low mileage E39 which looks brand new!

Shocked maybe, but more likely jealous as hell when you went for the 535!

Yes, I am a sad geek.
I see this ship made port at 8am today... anyone who is expecting their car to be on this ship had an update yet?

Hi,

My car was WK48 build (Built on the 28/11) and has now arrived in the UK and been registered. But it will take around 1 week to get the car to the dealership and then another week for them to prepare the car. so i will not be getting the car until next year now

This "prep the car" or "PDI" bit. Can someone tell us what's involved exactly?

1) Clean it after the journey from the factory.
2) Stick the plates on.
3) Er, that's it?

Good news for me at least.

According to the person I spoke to on the BMW Customer Information line, my car is due to arrive at the dealership this afternoon with an ETA of 3pm. By my reckoning if I get a move on about now I should be able to get there to sit outside and wait for the lorry to arrive

In case anyone is interested in delivery timescales, that would make it 13 days since it's production date and exactly 4 months today that I ordered it. Time flies hey

Anyway, best go I've got a lorry to catch
