Toro Rosso hands prize to 2014 DTM Champion, Marco Wittmann

For those of you reading from last year, you may remember Marco Wittmann winning in 2014 for BMW in DTM. He had TONS of prizes, as seen here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1061819

Well, one of these rewards was being able to drive a Formula 1 car. He previously had a day scheduled but it was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Toro Rosso F1 is giving him the opportunity this Wednesday, June 24th.

Video (hopefully) will follow on Thursday!

“It’s fantastic that BMW Motorsport and Red Bull are giving me this opportunity to take part in the test,” said Wittmann.

“After many successful races in my BMW DTM car, I am excited about getting back in a single-seater for a brief outing.

“Above all, I am excited about an even higher top speed, the acceleration, braking later, and the g-force.”

Max Verstappen will compete in day one of the test, handing over to Wittmann for day two.

Here is an article from Formula1.com:
http://www.formula1.com/content/fom-...n-austria.html
DTM star Marco Wittmann and GP3 racer Antonio Fuoco will get their first taste of Formula One machinery this week, driving for Toro Rosso and Ferrari respectively in the forthcoming two-day test in Spielberg.

Wittmann receives his chance as a prize for winning last year’s DTM championship with BMW. He will take over the STR10 from Max Verstappen for the second day of the test, which begins on Tuesday.

"It is fantastic that BMW Motorsport and Red Bull are giving me this opportunity to take part in the test," he said. "As a child, I always wanted to drive a Formula One car. This is a dream come true for me."

Ferrari - along with Force India, one of only two teams not using either of their 2015 race drivers for the test - will run Fuoco, a member of their Young Driver Academy, and their 2015 F1 reserve Esteban Gutierrez.

Force India, meanwhile, will split the two days between Mercedes reserve Pascal Wehrlein and GP3 title contender Esteban Ocon, who also has Mercedes affiliations. Wehrlein will be in action for Mercedes too, taking over from Nico Rosberg - who triumphed on Sunday in Spielberg - for the second day.

Elsewhere, GP2 championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne - who dominated again in Austria with a victory and a second place - will drive the 2015 McLaren MP4-30 for the first time on day one. Fernando Alonso had been due to take control for the first day, but will now do so on day two after McLaren switched their line-up following the Spaniard's opening lap collision with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen on Sunday.

Susie Wolff, meanwhile, will be at the wheel for Williams on the first day, less than two weeks ahead of her scheduled free practice appearance for the team in her home Grand Prix at Silverstone. Valtteri Bottas will take over the FW37 for the final day.

Red Bull will split the test between Daniel Ricciardo and protege Pierre Gasly, who claimed a sixth-place finish in the GP2 race in Austria on the weekend.

Romain Grosjean and Jolyon Palmer will drive on the first and second days respectively for Lotus, while Ferrari protege and GP2 race winner Raffaele Marciello will be in action for Sauber on day one, before Felipe Nasr takes over on day two.

As was the case for the last in-season test in Barcelona, Marussia will not take part.

Crappy weather in Spielberg today, I hope it's not delayed further or - worse - rescheduled

Marco drives back to garage after a few more laps in the sun. He's completed a total of 31, currently P3 (1:13.089)

Wittman elated after F1 test with Toro Rosso in Austria
http://motorsportstalk.nbcsports.com...so-in-austria/

2014 DTM champion Marco Wittmann felt elated following his test for Toro Rosso in Austria on Wednesday, calling it an “amazing experience”.

Toro Rosso confirmed last October that Wittmann would be testing for the team in the future as a reward for winning the DTM (German touring car) title for BMW.

After completing a run in a 2012 car at Imola in December, the German driver finally got his first taste of a current Formula 1 car at the Red Bull Ring as part of the test following the Austrian Grand Prix.

Wittmann completed 158 laps on Wednesday in the STR10 car, finishing one second down on pace-setter Nico Rosberg in fourth place.

“This has been an amazing experience for me,” Wittmann said. “I was surprised at the power of the car; if I compare it to DTM, it’s got quite a lot more power!

“I enjoyed the whole day, which was trouble free, so I was able to do a lot of laps. I’m happy with my day, I hope the team is too. I would like to thank Red Bull, Scuderia Toro Rosso and BMW for giving me this great opportunity.”

It is unclear whether Wittmann will get any future opportunities with Toro Rosso, but his attention will now be turning back to his title defence in DTM. After two rounds and four races, the 25-year-old lies 13th in the championship standings, with the next races taking place at the Norisring this weekend.
