Z4 M Coupes had available wood dash trim. It was an option, but dealers or individuals chose it occasionally. Not my taste, but it was there. Dammit, I just noticed the E90 M3 is gone from BMW USA, but the coupe and convertible M3 also have it as an option.

Yup, while one can certainly argue about the precise definition of a "sports car", most car enthusiasts would not consider any iteration of the 3er to be a "sports car". Besides, I always find that using that term too liberally sounds a bit embarrassing. For example, there was a VW CC owner in some other forum who kept referring to his car as a "sports car". Ouch.

Sports sedan isn't the same thing as a sports car. General rule for a sports car is RWD, 2 door coupe/roadster, and 2 seats. Only exception I would make for that rule is Porsche 911.

I don't really care much what people think a sports car is or whether others would buy one with wood grain or not. It just seems to me that the new 3er limits customization too much.

Totally agree. I also have wood in my E90 M-Sport! I also have a wood dashboard and frame in my English sports car...1966 Morgan 4/4.
