Since so many people seem to confuse clear film and OC, some notes. OC will not stop stone chips. OC is for paint maintenance; it is awesome at it...but if you're trying to stop stone chips/road rash/sand blasting the only option if a clear bra (or a 1970s vinyl bra! hah). A lot of people do both; they serve two very different purposes. |

I'm pretty sure the opti coat was $675 and it included any type of correction needed to get the paint ready for opti coat.
the clear film should probably be full hood, full fender, full bumper, headlights, mirrors, door cups etc. $1400-$2000 is what most good shops will charge for custom cut clear film. |

I want to have the full front covered but I think it's too expensive. :/ I don't like half the hood solution...I can't stand that line showing in the middle. I probably will go for just the bumper and the mirrors...since the hood is less likely to get hit comparing to those. |

$675 isn't at all unreasonable with correction. Remember, prep is 99.9% of the job when coating a car.
$675 for a new car prep with OC is....above average. $675 for clear film - well, that really depends on the extent of coverage and film used. For a front bumper/extended hood and fenders it is not unreasonable. |

I have scheduled an appointment to get my car opti-coated next week. Since this is the first time I am using a mobile detailer, how much do you usually tip them?
Thanks. |

My local detailer quoted a price of $750 for full paint correction (including polish) plus opticoat application, and an additional $100 for opticoating the wheels.
So that's ~$850 total, which seems a bit steep to me. Especially the reported $400 canadian prices here in this thread! Other potential places I might go instead to get the coating is great DC and/or Boston areas. Anyone got any rough price points for those places? |

you all know for the most part you get what you pay for, that being said speaking from a detailer's perspective, it's hard to quote over the phone.
We did a Lexus GS - new car prep and coating priced it out around what you are seeing on this thread, and we ended up spending 30 hours on the polishing. We did not see the car prior to the job. So if you want a phone quote I'm going to guess most are going to quote high so the detailer will have room. I know for example if the car doesn't need it we would not do it, hence if its less time it will be less than quoted. Hope that helps. |
