Finance and discounts question

Folks,

Apologies that this is slightly OT, but this board seems to have a lot more users than other UK ones on here for 5s and X models.

Thinking of VTing my F10 for a 40d X5.

Been offered 18% off (approx £11400), and the obvious 0% finance deal.

Not bothered that its the run out of the old model, I bought the F10 under the same circumstances. Currently paying 4.9% APR on the F10, so thats the other thing at the back of my mind.

Would appreciate any thoughts/guidance anyone has

Cheers

If you're VT'ing, I'm assuming you already know your F10 is in negative equity?

Definitely in negative equity.

Settlement figure is about £27k. Can't see a dealer offering me more than £20k for it since they are selling them for around £23k now

I've been thoroughly happy with mine. 30d slightly underpowered so it's good you're looking at 40d. With discount and 0% it's a great time and I too am not bothered about the model change - it can get slightly obsessive.

I VT'd my 335d in similar circumstances and it worked out just fine - although the X5 wasn't he car for me in he end.

One thing I would add - I looked at the 40d but in the end the 50d came out better as discounts were much higher. Just check that out.

Try Tony Lewis at Berry Heathrow may be able to get you more discount. Also have a look at Drive The Deal as they were offering good deals recently

If similar cars to the OP's are advertised at dealers for only around £23k it suggests he's looking at very low 20's for his on a private sale (and hence he'll be nowhere near clearing his settlement figure of £27k). VT therefore does appear to be his best option IMO....

Is the car worth that much less due to excess mileage? My take is that you will have quite a battle on your hands if you VT but don't pay off the excess and your credit rating will be impacted...

What do you mean by "battle" ?

I'd assumed that I'd have no choice but to pay an excess mileage charge anyway? I am slightly over, but not by much.

I'm going into this assuming that I will have to pay the excess mileage charge, already factored that in.

https://www.thecarexpert.co.uk/car-f...nation-pcp-hp/

worth a read, and they side on the fact that excess mileage in unenforceable, however if you do a bit of googling you'll find ombudsman decisions where excess mileage was found not to be contrary to the consumer act and within the remit of "taking reasonable care" of goods.

If you're only slightly over, you might only have a small amount to pay should you choose to stomach it.

Currently about 3000 or so miles over the pro rata allowance, so not a huge amount really

Same opinion as Robbo, I have the 40d and it's excellent, absolutely love it. Good mpg on a run...not so good around town, but you know that already.

Just don't buy black - I had no intention but time was running out, I needed a car and this deal was too good to turn down, but I'll never buy a black one again. Also, 20" alloys are absolutely fine, but if you can find one with 22's grab it, it just looks better.

Although I still look at the RRS knowing that I'll buy one next......what's wrong with us?!

Sounds a good deal OP. At times there has been a tad more discount but not at the same time as 0%. Also as above definitely VT, anything else will be faff and fighting uphill vs negative equity.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the input folks. Think I have my mind made up now tbh, pretty sure I'm going to do it.

June payment for my 535d is due off soon. So if I take delivery mid June, 1st payment for the X5 won't be due till mid July, I'll allow the July payment for the 535d to come off, and then VT it which will add another months mileage allowance as well, and reduce the early VT figure at the same time.

Part of me still thinks that 540i petrol Mpg might not be that worse than the X5, but I have wanted one for a while, but always baulked at the cost.

Its about £50 a month more than I've been quoted for a 40d with Msport+ pack.

Also, these numbers will be based on a base M50d. Most of them are loaded with extras that will add at least another £50 to that number

M50d is quite a beast, with a tuning box performance goes up to 460bhp & 860NM!

The M Performance TwinPower Turbo engine has immensely satisfying acoustics and delivers a powerful output of 381hp (280kW) and a maximum torque of 740Nm.

The advert says the above... I thought the M50d's were tri-turbo engines? Unless its a different engine to the F10 m550d, but that has the same power output.
