Good to hear that's working for you. It's easy to forget about all of the great noises that these cars can make...hopefully, that's the end of the @#$! creaking.

Amen to that. I still have that intermittent rattle that sounds like it's coming from the A pillar. Seems to do it more when ambient temp is hot.

I first applied gummi to the area labeled "Mating Surface" in the 2nd picture (not the felt) and I found no joy. The instant that I put a paint sealant on the BOTTOM surface of the shadowline trim, I never heard another creak. Maybe it's a combination of the 2 things, but it appeared to me that, like the Teflon solution, the friction between the rubber and shadowline trim needs to be lowered so that they can easily slide past each other as they flex.

Metal? Isn't the shadow glossy trim plastic?

But the felt contacts the plastic trim not the metal. The rubber contacts the metal tho. Or the clear coat rather.

All I know is that Gummi didn't do a complete job and when I waxed all the metal surfaces around the seals it is virtually quiet now.

IIRC, the window trim on my '84 Audi 5000 was far better from a functional and aesthetic standpoint. I mean really, does someone think that it looks good to have more than an inch of rubber between the glass and body trim?
You're a genius! Your fix worked perfectly! It took me a while to find the time to buy a sealant and apply it but here I am today and I've completely eliminated the creaks! Awesome!

I used Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant (1 coat), on the shadowline trim above the door, after a proper cleaning, claybaring, compounding and polishing (took a while). Now the surface of the trim is super slick and smooth and the rattling/creaking is gone!!! Thanks again.

So who needs Teflon tape? Glad to hear this worked for you too!

I've had this creaking start recently and its super annoying. The driveway into our condo forces you to drive up the sidewalk at an angle which torques the body. I figured the noise was coming from continually driving in and out over that curb. I'll have to give the teflon a try and hopefully it works!

If you read my last msg out of context, you might be misled. I was actually dismissing Teflon tape as being unnecessary. Details are in my post in this thread on 6/4 at 11:05 AM.

I had this problem too, and found that by cleaning the "shadow line" trim like other people have done makes the problem go completely away. I just make a habit of cleaning it when I wash the car. I found just about anything that lubricates will work (eg. Armor all, car wax, polish) heck...even just cleaning it with windex! Easy fix

I used I used Zymol Cleaner Wax as suggested for a period of 4 days. It did not fix my problem. It goes away while it is fresh, but keeps coming back.

@ft1330: I will try your method in a few weeks. Can you keep us updated if the noises come back or not? Thanks.

I have to give credit to 49er since I didn't come up with it. But it worked great. I'm not familar with your wax but I decided to use a polymer sealant because it provides long lasting coverage (6 months) and it's super-slick so it's a perfect fix for the shadowline trim creaks. And I will seal my entire car with it when I have a chance. Menzerna Power Lock is great and easy to use, and I found a good deal at TCP Global, so that "sealed" it for me (pun intended ). I will keep you updated. Hopefully I remember it.

Yes, the creaking came back somewhat and I used Meguiar's Quick Detailer, and that made it quiet again.

Hey I did say, "A paint sealant is not the same as wax". I haven't heard a creak since my first application a couple/few months ago.

I am having the same exact issue. Tried using Zymol wax on the metal around the door. Cleaned the seals. No creaking noises for a couple of days. Then came back. Seems even worse now.

Meguires spray wax is working great for me. about once per month I just spray some on a rag and quickly wipe the shadow line trim. I don't even go back over it with a clean rag. This spray wax leaves no white film.

ok, i have a favor to ask for everyone who has this fixed (by dealer, by applying something, by cleaning throughly, etc etc).
Go out and have a little fun with your car, and make sure you do some hard turns here and there. I actually recommend using highway/freeway ramps that goes around, and just have fun with centrifugal force.
Then let me know if the noise comes back or not.
My original squeaking came from taking a ramp at pretty good speed (safe enough speed but much faster than a grandma), had it pretty close to fixed all the way by dealer, and completely fixed by cleaning the door area.
Then after about a month, I just wanted to see and took a ramp little hard, and yes, the noise came back. Not as bad, but definitely came back.
If noise is still not there, please let me know how YOU did to have the noise completely gone. Thank you.
I am really trying to narrow this down to possibly complete cure of it.

Dealer waxed it a few months ago. The noise has not come back...this includes taking hard, fast curves/turns, going over speed bumps and driving on LA roads last weekend. It's a BMW. Most are driving it in the manner in which you have asked.

If you are waxing of course its going to come back eventually since the wax isnt permanent. Make hitting the gloss trim a regular part of your cleaning routine. It only takes a few seconds to wipe it down with a spray wax or quick detailer.

That is why i am getting pissed. I have to drive like a grandma to keep this noise away lol why did i even bother to get a 335?
Anyways, i am calling dealer one more time for this, and another ridiculous problem. Then gotta contact bmwna again to ask for financial adjustment. My brand new car has been at dealership too many times.
I will always wipe down the door area after wash.
