Is it possible to turn off TPMS?

So my upcoming F30 will likely have the TPMS pressure sensors, but i have bought some wheels for winter use so i need to know if it's possible to turn of the pressure monitoring as the wheels don't have the sensors which i guess will give an error on the dash?

As far as I know, you cannot.

You'll have to spend the extra money to get TPMS on each wheel, it doesn't cost much. At least not in my experience. If you're getting rid of your stock wheels entirely, you can just take the TPMS from those and put them on your new wheels.

But can it be done through coding? Anyone?

How much do you mean by not much? I thought they're at least $400 a set?

You can get them for $100 a set on ebay. You won't find anyone to code even if it is possible. Too much liability.

For me in the past they were around $180 for the total set from tirerack, these were for an Infiniti G sedan though.

This ASTOUNDS me. The number of people who complain about minor expenses on $40k+ cars is crazy...

Not sweating. Just comparing to the previous $100 quote. Plus winter rims cost $700, then winter tires cost another $700..

(PS It's a $60+k car)

I'd rather not spend the money as the sensors won't be necessary on the non rft tyres i plan to get!

Anyway, shawnsheridan has said in the coding forum that you can pull a fuse out to disable the TPMS, so hopefully that will do the job!

I run my winters without sensors in the winter. No big deal at all. Upon start up I just have to press the iDrive wheel and accept that the fault is found.

I was thinking there would just be an error come up, that would be annoying enough, but having to press the idrive button every tine i get in the car would really annoy me! I hope the fuse trick works without any side effects!

You already have to press the iDrive on start up to accept the warning, so it does not bother me to double press for the TPMS warning.

I got used OEM sensors for under $200 for my 19's, so the cost really is not a big deal if this bothers you to press a button.

So once you press the button is there no warning light on the dash at all?

After you press the button, the icon for TPMS on the dash goes solid instead of blinking. It may bother you, doesn't both me.

On initial start up when the message comes on.

Right, it's not ideal really, much rather turn the system off somehow!

Why do you think you are getting the direct TPMS system in the UK?

Not even optioned is it, from what I can see for UK models? If you have the standard UK fit TPWS, then we don't have wheel sensors, so no issue for swapping wheels.

5-series has the option in the UK, but standard fit is still the indirect TPWS.

Standard car uses rotational differences to calculate any loss of pressure.
