Blockheater

Does anyone here have experience with a block heater for the f30? Initially I thought you could not get one, but when I visited the dealer they said it is possible and is 300$ installed. I'm thinking of getting it now since since it's available and for peace of mind.

My car is garage kept but there could be days where it's not, anyone struggling to start when leaving it outside in temperatures of -20 to -30?

I've not had a block heater in my BMW's for years. The last block heater I think was in my E30 and I needed to have it installed as it was not provided from the factory.

The local dealer is now providing "block heaters" consisting of a warming loop for the rad system. It is not a frost plug like the traditional block heaters. I've left my cars outside for 8 to 10 hours in -30C without experiencing starting issues. Your battery has to be up to snuff and you should be good to go with the synthetic oils.

I was quote $350 for just a battery tender
and 1150 for a block heater c/w battery tender
located in edmonton

I left car outside for 2 days during -28 weather.. it started but comfort access did not work and no interior lights and and charge battery warning came on.

I am in Edmonton as well, I picked up the battery tender from Edmonton BMW for ~130$. Its manufactured by Deltran with a BMW logo on it, 350$ seems a bit unreasonable.

I talked to Bavaria BMW today. They were out of the regular battery tender but had a more expensive model that had to be hardwired in etc - maybe that's the $350 option?

I just got a charge battery notification this am so I am going to buy a charger at Canadian Tire. Apparently the BMW one is just a rebranded Deltran that is on sale right now for $50.

would be neat to have it hardwired, I have the BMW Deltran version, still haven't used it yet.

I went for the drive on the Henday and charge warning went away.
Nowdays the car only gets driven on weekends or if I go out after work. car sat for 5 days before going for spin and it started no problem and everything worked.
