Real Gas Mileage
I wanted to get an idea of what I should be getting on gas mileage. I have 15 f36.
Below are the mods that may effect mpg: MPPK MPE Charge Pipe Dinan Cold Air Intake I drive mostly City. I stay in Eco/ Comfort and occassionally in Sport. And I dont drive her hard. Best I have ever gotten is 21 Yesterday I got 16 Specs say 21/32. What am I missing or are the specs just plain bs?? |

2013 F30 335i 6mt. Average 22mpg for 2 years
2015 F36 435GC 8AT. Average 20.4 mpg for 5 months so far Same driving pattern and same routes. However, took the F36 to Vegas recently and got 27mpg with some traffic and a lot of WOT. Should be able to get 30mpg if you drive like a grandma. |

It's the driving in Plano, construction everywhere, and too much traffic.
If you're getting that kind of mileage there's no use to drive in Eco mode. Leave it in Sport and enjoy the ride.

I stay away from Sport & Sport. +. The one and only time I drove in Sport + I got a nasty speeding ticket. Need to find a place where i can open her up without fear of cops. |

328i F31 here, so obviously I'll have different results, but my total average consumption (city/highway mix, with about 70% of that being city driving) is ~ 19.7MPG. I have a fairly heavy foot and love to goose it off of stop lights or onto on-ramps.
On long highway cruises I seem to be in the upper 20's. Driving from Portland, OR to the Bay area for Christmas. Will be curious to see how I do over those ~1500 miles or so, almost all highway. Planning on setting cruise control at 75 or so and dropping it in Eco Pro for most of the trip. |

You've spent too much money on mods to drive in eco and comfort! I see marginal differences in mpg between sport and comfort. Averaging around 22 with 50/50 of city and hwy

I commute 3 days a week in to Seattle. Rest of the time it's shuttling kids to activities, running errands, or whatever random stuff. I typically just let her roll in Comfort, and I don't drive it hard at all. I've only had my 335i for a few months now, so still really getting the feel for what happens when I drop the happy button.

I would agree that 16 seems low, unless you're in city driving 100% and having a lot of traffic that's causing slow speeds and multiple start/stops and idling. Or going balls out most of the time. I'm in a 335i and seeing around 20-21mpg driving around the same areas, Plano, Frisco, Dallas, Garland, and Richardson on the streets. That's using comfort and sport.

I think i got less than 200 miles from my first tank of gas after switching from 6mt to 8at.
The truth is, regardless what the magazines MPG #s are, 6mt will save more gas than 8at in reality. It is pretty "uncomfortable" to shift at 4K+ RPM in a 6mt for regular day to day driving. But in 8AT, with more/shorter gears and it does not take much to rev it pass 4k rpm and easier to do that too since all you have to do is just step on it. That is why it is easier to drive fast in 8AT but also easier to use more gas. |

My 335 is stock.
About 2 months old. Current tank is at 22.9 MPG and that's about 80% city driving. I'm usually in Sport with the paddles on and gunning every green light. Best tank I got I think was around 32-33 on a long trip. |

And with those mods you're probably using them for they were designed to do, and that is to produce more power. Using more power, more often will result in lower MPG. You can't cheat physics. The gearing in the 8AT is more conducive to better MPG as it has a broader gear ratio for better efficiency. It has 8 gears, 2 of which are over drive. The MT has only 1 OD gear. When the AT is in comfort/normal mode the shifts come quicker with less rpm, and that helps MPG. When the trans is set to sport that's when it will hold gear longer. If you drive the AT in trans sport mode, then the trans will hold gear longer. Higher rpm, higher friction, more fuel used. Driven in the same daily drive manner the AT should get better MPG due to it's lower rpm shifts along with it's wider gear ratio. And in comfort mode the AT tries to get to 8th as quickly as it can, meaning the shifts come quicker at lower rpm. BMW MPG tests confirm that, and BMW publishes the test numbers. IIRC, EPA has confirmed their numbers. The MPG difference between the MT and AT is about 2-3mpg in favor of the AT city/highway. My driving conditions are more conducive to better MPG as I live in the flat lands of the Chicago area in rural-suburban area that doesn't have a lot of stop and go traffic like city driving. City driving is going to yield a good bit lower MPG. That low rpm torque called upon constantly is going to need fuel. And if you drive in a hilly terrain area that too will lower MPG as you'll need more engine power to drive at the same speeds I would in the flat lands. Increasing tire pressure, and maintaining the proper pressures will also help improve MPG. In my 335i AT I ran 37psi up front and 40psi in the rear. BMW lists higher psi for driving at higher highway speeds, it's an optional psi. With my 335i Msport AT in mixed driving, with trans in comfort mode, I averaged between 25.5 to 27.5mpg in warmer weather, dependent on how many spirited drives I had on that tank of gas. In the winter my MPG would drop about 1.5MPG, partly due to lower tire pressures with the fluctuation cold tempsand a bit less in winter. With my 340i, same driving, I'm getting about 1 to 1.5mpg better. |

Out of a full tank of gas (15 gal pumped) i get anywhere between 255 to 300 miles ...
... But never more than 315 miles... I guess 20 mpg is the best i can do... |

Thanks for all the replies. It must be all the stop and go traffic. I dont care about the fuel costs, just wanted to make sure nothing is wrong with the car.
This may be off topic, but does anyone have a service maintenance schedule for a 15 f36. Dealer did the last oil change, but I dont want to miss anything that they might not cover |
