Open CAFD_000005b6_004_002_010.ncd in C:\ESysData\CAF using E-Sys FDL-Editor.

Search on "FF,FF," and tell me if you find something.

i could only succesfully read the CAFD under FEM_BODY. All others resulted in a timemout. The car was switched off during my attempt. No contact, no engine running.

Why is your car off? You can't have a connection to it unless it is powered up and maintaining 13.6 Volts. I leave mine Running when I code, except for coding the DME module.

Well, i left it off as the guide did not tell me to start it.
I simply unlocked it, waited a few seconds for the DRLs to turn off, got in, and connected succesfully.

I understand i have to try again with a running engine... will be back in a few minutes.

Oke, running the engine solves the timeout problem succesfully.
I've read all CAFDs available. Time to code

And I want to mention, that this time the download of the files was rather rapid
4h instead of 10days!

Guys can you help me out with a quick step by step process to restore my car to its original state? I made a copy of all of my original files before doing any coding. I just wrote a really long letter to BMWNA because my car has MANY issues and i know they are going to tear it apart now. (Issues where there BEFORE coding).

Thanks

Export .ncd to text to compare

I would like to compare a certain NCD file of 2 different, yet very similar cars to figure out why a feature does not work on mine but it does on his car. Does anybody have a suggestion how to do this?

If I could somehow export the contents to a text file would already make comparing a lot easier!

It can't easily be done. The .ncd files are in Motorola S-record Format and require CAFD file data for interpretation. I know someone working on this, who has made some progress, but nothing soon is coming.

For now, the best bet is to open two separate E-Sys sessions with one .ncd file opened in one, and the other .ncd file in the other, and view the FDL Coding side-by-side (it helps to have dual monitors).

The easiest thing for you to do (assuming you have not modified your VO in any way) is to simply Read you VO, Read VCM, and then highlight each ECU one at at time, Right-Click on it and select CODE. This "VO Coding" (as opposed to "FDL Coding") will restore each ECU to it's as delivered condition.

Just a quick question...

Can the Adaptive Light Control feature be enabled on Canadian cars by coding or is hardware required? My car has auto leveling but not Adaptive Light Control.

I had been trying to code this. The fogs as cornering I enabled but no luck with the adaptive Xenons.
This was a while ago and since then
another member has confirmed to me that the hardware is different between adaptive and non adaptive xenons.

Thank you for the info demge01.

It's too bad Canadians are second class BMW owners from BMWNA's perspective.

Got my cable today and tried read data from my car. It almost went well. I got one error - File for "cafd_000007c8-006_006_002" not found! I assume that car is too new for my data files...
