Still, when converted it looks like 170-175whp and 240-250lbs tq to the wheels.

This is the factory graph which is supposedly measured at the flywheel, so it's the same regardless of drivetrain. The torque is Nm not lb/ft.
If it's like the 28i then very likely to be conservative.

Nevermind.

I thought you had posted a dyno which measures power to the wheels.

OK, so the difference between a 328ix and a 320ix is roughly $3,000.

Other than clueless brand whores who know nothing about cars, who in their right mind would not pay that difference?

2 years ago I was able to buy a 6 cylinder 3 series with the same money. Thank you BMW! Also, good bye BMW. I guess after owning 3 consecutive 3 series sedans, I might need to look somewhere else. The problem is that the others might be even worse.

Real enthusiasts are always harking for a great handling car with decent power. This is it. This car harkens back to the E30. It has PLENTY of power. Yet everyone wants to complain about how "posers" will be leasing these in mass and how they just want a badge.

So what is is fellas — do we want a great handling car at a reasonable cost with decent power or do we want to continue to make fun of sorority girls and secretaries for not being "true enthusiasts" and "badge whores" even if the sales they generate allow us to get these cars in the first place? Who cares? They are building better cars then they ever have before and because they dropped a couple cylinders doesn't diminish that (remember the E30 318is and M3).

So you think passion for the car is connected to which model people select? That a 335i owner has more passion that a 328i owner?

Passion for the car has nothing with getting the top model or the price of the car. I passion was connected to the price, then I should have much more passion for my car yhan you since I paid $120 000 for a 320i...

I got the 320i with the M Sport adaptive driving package because it's a great driving machine, and the most fun I have is driving on twisty roads going a maximum of 60mph. For this I don't need to pay $50 000 extra in taxes for a 335i.

Unless you live in Germany you will never use the full potential of a 335i anyway, and then only when there is little traffic.

The 320i doesn't seem to be any more efficient than the 328i or 335i, both of which are rated at 23/33mpg.

I guess the only advantage is that it's cheaper.

If it were a diesel, the 200ft-lb would be way too low; it would be closer to 300ft-lb, and highway fuel economy would be over 40mpg.

I think the 320i is just a detuned 328i. In a perfect world, that means software is the only difference between the two... (aside from the exhaust pipe)

They look like the standard bumpers.

On another note. After thinking about it, I'm not terribly upset about this car. With adaptive suspension and a 6mt it could be lots of fun. I think BMW has realized that their prices are just getting too high for many in the US that are interested in the brand, and are willing to bet that Americans are such badge whores that they'll overlook the 320i part for the BMW. Good move? We'll see, but I think so.

Not likely. By that line of reasoning, BMW would be throwing out a significant portion of their current engine manufacturing cycle because they were unable to attain the specified power output. There simply isn't that much variation in manufacturing these days. We (humans) are too good at it.

Any differences in the engine are intentional and introduced by specification.
