Dinan installed!
Well I bit the bullet and went all out and got the Dinan tune done at my local dealer. For months I thought I was just going to do the JB Stage 1 because of the price/performance value, but sometimes I tend to go overboard and this was one of those times. I also have the MPE. Other than that the car is completely stock. (I used to have the AFE intake but I didn't like a particular sound it made during low rev acceleration so went back to stock).
Great difference in power (as expected). I'm hitting 4.5-4.6 on 0-60 where as before it was around 5.1-5.2. Also, the burble from the MPE is much more pronounced in sport mode. Always leaves a big smile. There's still a little lag in stomping the pedal, but it is much improved compared to before. No regrets! |

What sort of AfE intake did you have?

Great power. It seemed to me that the engine got smoother with mileage. A brief adjustment period . It's only a few dollars more! Enjoy life!

Stage 2 will require the new Dinan intake and a less restrictive exhaust.
You don't have to wait but maybe you get a better emotional bang for your buck because the performance gains are just that much more. You probably wouldn't feel as much difference from Stage 2 to Stage 1 as from when Stage 1 was first installed. You have also paid quite a chunk of change for the intake and exhaust as well as the incremental expense for the software. Two ways of approaching this I guess - whatever works for you is the right one. |

You don't have to get Dinans intake or exhaust. You can get them from anywhere. Hell, my old Dinan Stage 5 had a Chinese knock off intake and an exhaust made by my muffler shop.

Certainly any twenty year old can afford a beater 320 bmw, but have some class. I want my car to reflect some class, exclusivity, and accomplishment. The sum of the parts make the whole. Go to a quality foreign car expert and install quality parts in your vehicle. I wont go to the range and shoot Chinese firearms. WHY drive a Chinese auto part?

We need to get away from the notion that all parts from China or Asia is junk. The sooner we realize this the better our nation will be able to compete on a global scale. I'm an audiophile and let me tell you, the quality and technology of high end audio great coming out of China is on par with what is produced here. Yes, you can find sub par parts from China but the same can be said of US made parts too.

I agree. See Hifiman, Woo Audio, and you will see that there are definitely quality parts coming out of chinese factories. to the post above that said why drive with chinese parts when you're driving a luxury vehicle? I guarantee you that close to half of your "luxury" bmw has parts made in china. Stop with the elitist american holier than thou mentalities. there's a saying that you guys use "a fool and his money are soon parted". I.E. why most americans are in so much debt because you'd rather look good and be broke, IMO. |

So Dinan left his own company after 36 years to be in a management position at Chip Ganassi Racing. Kinda weird. Not being able to break the BMW ecs code much have been hard on him.
