Yes, that covered prototype is indeed the 4er Gran Coupe'

The 4er GC is going to look way better then the 3er GT.

So whats next? 1 series grancoupe? or the Z4 grancoupe? why dont you just keep the 3 Series in Sedan, coupe and wagon? why would anyone buy a 3 series "gran coupe" the 6 series wont have that many sales one because the 5 series is slightly better looking (my opinion) and its way too expensive. also here in the US and Canada we dont have any diesel engines for the 5 and 6 series, so instead of doing the useless 3 series gran coupe send us some powerful diesel engines!

Guess what. There are two D engines coming so chill. And yes there will be a 1er GT of sorts. I think it will based on the same platform as the Mini Traveller.

The upcoming Mercedes CLA/ VW CC buyers?

The way i see it is that these 4 door 'coupes' chould cater for the BMW owner who hankers after a more 'old school' BMW- where the focus is more driver orientated and sacrifices such as rear interior space aren't as important.

Fair play to BMW, its like a more attainable 6GC. If I could afford one it would definitely be something that I would consider.

It is good to see the FEP of the 3er Gran Turismo , although you will see the car as a pre-production concept next month.

There is an all new BMW model now publically testing. Something we have not seen yet.

That scenario is all but entirely unlikely given that part of the rationale behing new naming strategy is to place coupes, Gran Coupes, and convertibles upmarket from their sedan, touring, and GT platform mates.

Additionally, what they are doing is creating further brand differentiation between models that were already going to be coming anyway. The market for 5 door models is growing due to countries like China, and the market for 4 door coupes is growing due to the success of cars like the Mercedes CLS and VW CC. BMW is entering the game because to sit back and watch would be to yield the market to the competition and ultimately be determental to their business.

So in the end you have an influx of new models due to buyer trends, and you need to come up with an over-arching naming strategy to accomodate. At the same time, you also want to take the marketing approach already taken with the 5/6 and propigate that throughout the lineup. The resulting product mix, which we will begin to see next year, is actually a very logical step, and one that should provide a huge increase to BMW's global sales.

I'm betting X4. We know it's coming, but it's all new to BMW, and everything else we know about has pretty much been caught in public now anyway!

Bring on the X4 spy pics!

This occurred to me the other day. The 6 Series is, in effect, the 2 door version of the 4 door 5 Series, right?
And the 6 Series Gran Coupe is the 4 door version of the 2 door 6 Series, yes?

Then than means that the 6 Series GC is the 4 door version of the 2 door version of the 4 door 5 Series...

Is this confusing anyone else?

The successor to the 8er is the BMW 6er , if you want a super exclusive Coupe then you will have to wait for the super fast Rolls-Royce Ghost Coupe which will premiere in Concept form at Geneva next March before a premiere in production form at Frankfurt next September.
Not only is the new Coupe RR's first entry Coupe, it also employs a slimmer look of the already beautiful Ghost with a dynamic roofline. Despite the disguise the Coupe is not a hatch as the roofline blends into a very low profile and short trunk.
Its a stunning and beautiful car and it is going to have an serious impact on increasing RR sales.
A Drophead Coupe model (cabrio) version will also come allowing the Ghost to immitate the larger Phantom family.

No further BMW Coupe's for the premium market as the market for such cars is declining , in the wake of super luxury SUVs.
Globally Customers for these cars are getting younger in new markets and as some cases have to extend and accomodate needs for family , business etc. Which is why many manufacturers including BMW and Mercedes-Benz are investing in four door coupes because customers are looking for performance and coupe looks but with extra space.
BMW looking at a reinvention of the ill-fated CS Concept and Mercedes working on a four door CL. High end luxury Coupes remain popular because their larger size allows for more suitable accomodation.

Quote:
Scott, what are the projected release dates for US market of M3, 4 coupe, M4 and M4 gran coupe?
I am not overly familiar with US launch dates but the F80 M3 will arrive in the US around Spring 2014.
actual launches that are non-market specific commence with the 4er Coupe arriving next Summer.
M4 will be around late 2014 with the M4 Gran Coupe later in 2015.
The 4er Gran Coupe will launch in early 2014.
Despite what you see the M3 is far from finished and development will continue until next summer's launch. Both M5 and M6 were at this stage in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
The Concept car is purely for visual purpose and no info about engine , drivetrain etc will be revealed at the same time. All details will be kept on ice till the launch.

The all-new BMW's are the X4 and 2er. But there is an X5 mule which has a lengthened body as BMW move on with the X7 development.

The blue FEP car in the Gran Coupe thread is actually the 3er Gran Turismo, suggest maybe that the moderators make a seperate thread now?
