Hotels in Munich

To members who have done ED: have you found decently priced hotels in Munich center? Right now I'm looking at an average price of $500 A NIGHT on hotels.com!!! WTF! Anything less and you're in the middle of nowhere in the country-side...

I see nothing wrong with middle of nowhere, since you'll be driving there in your brand new BMW! Check some other sites, like travelocity, priceline, and hotwire. Try varying your dates.

Check the NH Hotel: http://www.booking.com/hotel/de/nhde...ability_target

I stayed there. Location was perfect, rates were reasonable, room was clean and modern. Was a bit small room, but we were rarely there.

View from my room:

I'm a bit of a Marriott whore and I just pulled rates for their hotels. For the first two weeks in September two different Courtyards are around 180 euros a night during the week. (cheaper on the weekends) Not sure what the heck hotels.com is trying to pull.

I really want to go to Oktoberfest. Hopefully this year or next year.

I finished my ED in December. I paid $75/night at the ArtHotel, which is a block away from the main train station. But, that was Nov/Dec. Parking is an extra $15.00 night. You must reserve parking and it's a must. Parking is a nightmare in Munich. It is a pretty basic hotel that tries hard to be artsy. I'm was happy with it, but I'm not 100% I'd recommend it.

Decent breakfast and free wifi.

I booked all 5 of my hotels with Tripadvisor.com. Try it. I like it because it has reviews and lots of reviewer pictures. Good luck. Euro delivery is just a fantastic experience.

I got one for you. It's called motel one. It's a affordable chain you will not see on hotels.com. But other then being cheap it has amazing breakfast and very stylish and clean. They have one very close to the city center. It's a secret gem used by businessman so it can be hard to get a reservation. Check the system if there are no reservations for your date PM you and I can hook you up.

There are tons of nice clean places in the $80-$120 a night area. Go to tripadvisor and take a look. Don't be afraid to stay in a B&B which can be great.

Your best bet is to stay just outside the Old Town Center where rates are much lower but can be accesed by a 10-15 minute walk as hotels in the center will be much more. Venere is another good site that I use a lot when I'm going to Europe. Good luck.

I can also recommend the "motel one" hotels; clean, modern and simple. Also you can have a decent breakfast (though you can get better German style breakfasts at dedicated places). I often stay myself at those hotels when visiting other towns in our contry.

The Best Western Atrium is where the wife and I usually stay in Munich. Great breakfast, parking garage underneath the place, and a 5 min walk from the AltStadt. It's in a Turkish/ Arab area, so it's cheaper than the other Best Western, but all it really amounts to is that you have like 10 Doener shops to pick from on your way back from the bars! It's also only 2 blocks from the Oktoberfest grounds and 2 blocks from the main train station, for anyone who is interested. I think we payed 300 euro for one night during the Fest, but otherwise I think I remember under $100 a night.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback. I don't know what I was on yesterday. I swear I just went to hotels.com and typed in "Munich, Germany" and all it came up with was $500/night hotels. I had no filters on. At first I through it was the total for my 4 night stay but the damn website said "average nightly rate". Once I told my wife this was about to become a day trip from Paris where we will be based (family), she found some great hotel options real quick!!! This is what motivation can do... Haha. And she found some great options right by BMW World...

For the sake of it I went to hotels.com again this morning to confirm I wasn't just drunk yesterday and sure as hell the prices are still sky high. Check out this screenshot. I sorted by CHEAPEST first. Yes this is $213 a night for a "HOSTEL" in some other city. The others are like at the airport or something. What????

The high prices could be because of the Munich Springfest... Basically a miniature Oktoberfest. They usually have it in April, you also just miss my favorite time of year in Munich, Starkbierfest (Strong Beer Fest), to celebrate Lent all the breweries debut their strong beer!

Sounds like a good explanation, I just entered random dates. I tried May and it came up with more palatable prices.... It surprised me because usually April is a cheap time to travel so I figured it must be even worse outside of this time frame!

Personally I love Weissbier (White/Wheat beer) so if they have a Weissbier festival let me know!!

I recommend Hotel Demas, it's a simple unassuming hotel which I've stayed twice. Should be more affordable than what you quoted above and they have a great breakfast and parking (kind of a bunker like, it was super narrow and probably from WWII, ha). Otherwise, parking up the block and public transportation very close. You'll be within walking distance of Marienplatz.

P.S. I would recommend calling the hotel directly to ask for booking if you have any issues online (sometimes helps, especially with last minute openings)

_______________________________

Ok, just went online and saw there is more than one Hotel Demas (my bad). The one whose information you want is as follows:

Hotel Demas City
Landwehrstr. 19 Munich, BY 80336
+49 (0) 89 69 33 990 Hotel Class:3 stars

Tripadvisor link.

Good luck.

Thanks again everyone I will be sure to get back to this thread when I get closer to the date.

Only downside of this trip is that I won't be driving the new BMW much since I'll be on a Weissbier BINGE haha!!!

Dont forget that if you are doing ED, BMW has negotiated rates with some hotels. I will be staying in the Munich Marriott starting this coming Sunday for about 120 Euros per night.

Four Points Olympia - 5 mins from the Welt and the Metro station. bed and breakfast it's far cheaper than Munich City Centre. I parked underground at the Welt for free following my ED.

Hotel Uhland - long an ED classic. And they have parking. Nice staff, too.
