More so than when you're in motion, you'll likely get the ticket when you're stationary/parked. This isn't a "fix-it" ticket either (at least not in NYC)...ask me how I know.

Is there any way to guarantee the plate/bracket is left off of my car???
V C Section 11713.17 Front License Plate Bracket

Front License Plate Bracket

11713.17. (a) Following the retail sale or lease of a motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, a dealer may not deliver the motor vehicle unless either of the following occurs:

(1) The motor vehicle is equipped with a bracket or other means of securing a front license plate.

(2) The dealer obtains a signed written acknowledgment from the person taking delivery of the motor vehicle acknowledging both of the following:

(A) The person expressly refused installation of a bracket or other means of securing the front license plate.

(B) The person understands that California law requires a license plate to be displayed from and securely fastened to the front of the motor vehicle and that the hardware necessary to securely fasten the front plate is available from the dealer.

(b) A manufacturer or distributor may not sell or distribute in this state a new motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, unless that motor vehicle is equipped or provided with a bracket or other means of securing the license plates.

Added Sec. 1, Ch. 365, Stats. 2004. Effective January 1, 2005.

My dealer did not drill holes. They said too many customers do not want that. So they automatically just leave it.

Well, I was gunna just put them on the tow hook, but I got the parking sensors and heard it interferes. I can't drive without it cuz I drive the 110 carpool, and they pull you over if you don't have it on the front (since they take pictures). I was fine with them drilling the holes, I just wish they would have used a level...

I wasn't aware of the clip on till it was too late..

I ordered the Medium bracket solution from Skene Design @ $50. The kit comes with everything you need, and is very adjustable. Of course you are putting holes in the under side of the bumper lip, but they would be unnoticeable if I need to remove the bracket, or if Texas every really does dump the front plate law

The black license plate frame is the OEM BMW black slim line version. You can get them from Amazon or your dealer for about $30.
SamS that looks really good. One question. Why did you order the medium bracket? I went to the link you provided (because I liked what you had and was going to order) and it states that I should be getting the "short" bracket for a 2013 335i. I am not a mechanically inclined person so want to make sure I get the "right" one that looks the best.

Anyone have any idea how much the retractable plate costs?

Thanks.

I picked the medium, because that's what I measured for, using this chart from Skene:

If you go with the the "short" bracket, just realize your plate will tilt/face even more towards the ground than mine, i.e. less perpendicular to the road. I suppose it's all personal preference, but as you can see in my pics, my plate does actually tilt/face down quite a bit. Any shorter, and it's going to be majorly tilted to face the pavement, as opposed to more perpendicular.

thought this would be useful to bring back to life.

Lots of new deliveries lately!

Any one else knows which bracket size to order for M-sport?

I tried it, it does not work unless you really do alot of dremeling and such...I ended up using double sided tape and just sticking the plate on the bumper. After about a week I got tired of the look of it(motorcycle'ish) and said to hell with it, and just had it mounted with the factory bracket... Hated the look until I tried a bmw plate holder...now it just fits in with the car, and I dont really mind it.

i used zip ties to mount my front plate in the area shown below (pic is not of my actual car)....is there any risk of causing damage to the engine because of restricted airflow?...or performance impact?...i'd say the plate realistically covers about 60-70% of the vent opening

i'd like to be able to keep the plate there, but if it's gonna do more harm than good i'll put it somewhere else

^ I wouldn't put it there because of the airflow that travels through it. I'd suggest placing it somewhere else.

Use 3M tape if you don't want to drill and don't want to use a tow hook mount. A license plate will hold firm with 3M.

What happens if you remove the plate/tape?

You just take the adhesive off. Good as new!
