iDrive Knob

On the F30, why are some iDrive wheels made of metal and light up whilst others are just black plastic?

the standard iDrive knob is made of plastic, the big screen nav iDrive comes with a metal silver colored knob.

On the 5, 6, and 7 you can get a ceramic iDrive controller as well.

Wonder if it's a simple swap out and the cost of the upgraded knob.

I am a stickler for touch points.

I think u need to replace the whole unit, not sure abt the electrical pinouts, may or may not be identical.
