interesting... did not know that they went back to it. there was a bit of a row about in back in the day because they were violating convention. not sure when they switched back then.

I doubt there is a difference. Just the fact you can say hey my car is in germany getting built instead of oh its in SA. I didn't want SA cause i heard of long shipping waits. Next BMW i get its ED 100%

No difference in quality with SA built cars. My 2010 E90 MSport came from SA. Build quality is excellent. One problem in 3 years of ownership. A failed LED taillamp. That's it!

Fit and finish is excellent. Do NOT worry if you get an SA car. Only issue is leadtime for delivery.

To the posters who claim to have Munich made cars,

1. How specifically do you know?
2. What is the 11th digit of your VIN?

Thanks.
Your car has a J in the 11th digit of the VIN so its obvious that Regensburg is building F30s. That's great, Regensburg is probably BMW's most versatile plant. Knowing that M cars come from Regensburg means there is a high level of attention to detail.

If the vehicle inquiry report says 133Q then your car should be a Germany build (SA builds of the 335i for US are 133T). If you are sure the 11th digit of the VIN is N then your dealer changed something on you.

Are any F30 M Sport 335s or M3s made outside Regensburg?

My future 335i MSport rolled off the Munich "F" line on 11/8.

Its possible you ordered an option/package that pushed it to Regensburg. Or, maybe luck of the draw got you to Regensburg. No worries, its all good. Regensburg builds M cars, so maybe you'll get a souped up 335i.

I'm looking for some kind of theory here but it seems as if they make most models in several places. The SA guys go crazy because of the ship time, but my cousin (North Carolina) had his "African 328" delivered 8 weeks after he put down a deposit! Go figure...

I have a South African built sportline and the drivers door panel was missing red stitching. BMW was great and replaced it no questions asked.

That is a supplier issue, not an assembly issue. Parts QA should be done before parts are delivered to factory floor. Same thing can happen anywhere.

Don't worry about it. Regensburg is the factory that builds F30 Individual orders. If they are given this honor they must have systems in place to handle order diversity. Your car is perfectly fine and a German build.

I would worry more about engineering (vibrating steering, clunks in suspension, clicking steering noises, tail lamps falling out, squealing brakes) than production location.

Got it. I hear ya. In 2010 when all I could get was an SA car, I gave it some second thoughts before I came to my senses.

As I said above, I question BMW engineering and some lingering issues b4 I question production facilities.

there should be no difference in quality. the downside to an SA build is wait time. it adds up to 4 weeks to delivery time depending on where you are in the US.

Most likely not but if I can choose between SA and Germany I'd go with Germany for sure.
