Miss my F30: Loaner E90 whatever body style
I simply don't know how you guys did it driving the old body style. Yes it's smaller, possibly more nimble, but OMG, the interior is horribly anachronistic.
In the 328i XDrive, and it's quite a bit slower than the 328i XDrive I test drove when considering between my 335i. Everything is just...very old, reminds me of my brothers 2008 135i. Glad BMW updated the 3-series, it was CLEARLY very needed.

What can you do in the F30 interior that you couldn't do in the E90? Assuming we are comparing equally optioned cars. Just curious if some features would be important to me.

I don't think he mentions anything about features or functionality. He just said it felt dated

"Better" is obviously a subjective word in this context. And that would be "fewer" rattles, not less*
*Sorry: couldn't resist. I always correct my wife and kids on that one

I've just read a thread with exactly opposite evidence regarding the rattles. But yes the look and design is subjective, I like the F30 dash design more as it's back to being driver centered and I'm sure some materials are better but I prefer the e90 navigation system integrated into the 2nd dashboard hump vs just having a screen stick out

I'm in an Loaded E90 M-Sport loaner. The car is a 2011 and super clean with 11k miles on it. I prefer the F30 interior. The only thing I like better on the E90 is the steering wheel and the lack of glare on the nav screen.

:-) i passed on the 335i back in 2010 because it didnt have the balance of tech and sport the f30 has...the drive today confirmed this.

The F30 is so much nicer than the E9X in so many ways, the lack of the humpy-hump iDrive goiter the most obvious. The materials are nicer, the wood more modern, all the controls more driver-focused. Just a perfect car. BJ |

LOL this happens every time. E46 to E90, E90 to F30. Everyone has something to complain about instead of marvel the evolution of the car.
Coming from a former E46, E90 and E92 the thing that I could say def makes the E90 feel dated is the hard plastics on buttons and the fact that the center stack isn't driver oriented. I would rate it F30 --> E46 --> E90 |

E9X F30 The F30 screen sits up about 1" higher than the E90's and without its shroud there is a lot more visibility on both sides and atop it. It's like BMW designers took the E90 iDrive's helmet off, chiseled away all that unnecessary plastic, let it breathe a bit. It now resembles an iPad, a half-tablet peeking out of the dash. The new screen is less cumbersome, less distracting, and increases visibility. The screen is higher towards eye-level than the old one but without the big shroud it feels lower and less obtrusive. The air vents moved up, controls easier to reach too. It's a functionally brilliant re-engineering. You're a "performance enthusiast". You should get the concept. BJ |

I never owned a BMW before the F30, but I mentioned in a another thread that I had an E90 loaner the other day. Very bottom of the line base model.
I honestly thought I was in a 2005-2009..?, just couldn't figure it out because it only had 8k miles on it. When I finally got to work I grabbed the paperwork from the glove box. 2011??! Went into service less than a year ago! These pics don't really tell the story, because they make the E90 look a lot nicer than what I was in. If I'd taken that car for a test drive, no way would I have bought it. I got lucky with my timing for car hunting I guess. It's odd how subtle the differences look in a pic, and how huge they are in it. Sorry you're still without your car Shiva. |
