Winter Wheel/Tire Question

Hello Members,

Hope your collective insights will be able to help out on a question. I'm looking at getting a set of wheels and tires for this coming winter and was at tirerack.com when I got thrown for a loop. My current setup on my 335i sport is 19" wheels with (I believe this is called the staggered setup):

19" Alternate Front: 225/40-19
19" Alternate Rear: 255/35-19

Here is the prompt I received from tirerack when trying to order a set of 17" or 18" wheels/tires (mind you I also tried a different car setup base model and received same prompt): You Selected: 17" winter package for 2012 BMW 335i Sedan Sport Line *** Front or rear fitment Rear fitment Must use XL 225/40-19 on rear of vehicle for non-staggered set up. ***

Does anyone know what the above means? Basically this is the issue that is throwing me off, understanding what size wheels tires to get. Ideally, I''d like to get 17" wheels/tires for the winter. Any advice is welcome.

On another note, wow, what a whirlwind, first post in probably six months or so, got a new f30, I've gotten engaged and shortly thereafter we found out we're expecting too. Luckily, I didn't get a coupe or convertible...

I would go with an 18" package, 225/45/18 tires, you will be fine and they look much better.

Tire Rack doesn't have the correct size listed for the M Sport package (because its new). I let them know about it but they haven't changed yet.

We got a set of Rial Salerno with 225/45/18 Potenza 970's and TPMS for our M Sport.

Tire Rack said I could use the winter package I had for my 2009 E90 335i. It's a 225/45/17 set. They could have sold me a new set and I would have put these 4 in Roundel for-sale, but no issues using these 17" tires. I'll probably only put 1000 miles on the car from December thru February but if I have to go out, I'll have the Blizzak's on the car.

Thanks, PGT!

Finally realized that the Tirerack configurations were wrong and have since ordered from them with the correct sizing for 18" wheels + tires.

I was looking at the Rial Salerno which looks really nice and is machined so that no centering rings are needed, nonetheless, I went with the Elbrus I08 after seeing member Rick955's setup.

from member Rick955's setup

My car is currently in the shop and I can't wait to see what it will look like. Plus, I went with the 225/45R18 Pirelli Winter Sottozero Serie II 240 all around, non-RFT.

Thanks, again for the comments.

I just wanted to share my final winter setup:

Elbrus I08 Anthracite Wheels w/BMW Wheelcap
18" Pirelli Sottozero Serie II 225/45R18 Non Run-Flat

Thanks for fellow members helping me decide on my wheels

P.S. I did end up buying from tirerack and am immensely pleased, great quality and super fast shipping (literally received the wheels/tires overnight)!

Do all of you have Xdrives?

How bad will the auto 328i be in heavy snow? I maybe moving from FL to a very cold place soon.

I have an auto RWD in CT...no worries. Just get winter tires that's all.

Hi all, I'm looking to pick up some winter wheels and tires. Does anyone know if wheel style 159 will fit on a 2013 328 x drive? I think the wheels are from 2008 or 2009.
Any info would be much appreciated.
