AFE

Looking at Cold Air Intake System for F30 335i...

What is the difference between Pro Dry S and Pro 5 R?

My brother just sent me a K&N Filter...should I even bother with a Cold Air Intake System? How wrong am I?

Called aFe and the "sales person" recommended dry for less upkeep and people fear the cleaning oil getting on the sensors. I prefer when the sales company just prevents facts and not a recommendation and when they do provide the recommendation I always am extremely skeptical of it...and for that I think I am going to go with the 5 R.

LOL
They did tell you the truth though
They are basically the same but the oil one needs more upkeep (oil cleaning)
While the dry one install and done.

You scared me at first, but I found a youtube video of aFe explaining both and they still recommend washing the dry for 100%, vacuum for something like 96% and a tap tap will get around the 80% efficiency. So if I have to wash it anyhow why not just get the oil, sure if it gets dirty I don't have a quick solution if I need the car immediately.

Elsewhere on the net it says the dry stands for convenience whereas the oil is for performance, and if I am going to spend money on increasing performance I might as well go with the oil. Then again this may be all "placebo" but I feel much better about the decision...except I just learned there is a stage-2 option that just isn't available yet.
