External mobile phone antenna
In the center armrest of my car there is a craddle where I can insert my Android phone in for wireless charging. A bit useless for me, as my mobile phone does not have this function. But it is also said that when in this craddle, the phone uses the external antenna on the roof. How does this work ? I remember old phones having a plug to connect to external antennas. But today there is only a USB socket and even this is not used by the craddle. So how ?

Just looking at the TIS document for the 440 and it appears that the antenna is amplified so that the signal at the wireless charger matches the level at the aerial base plate:
