This is great! Japanese understand word "reliability" unlike bmw as of late. This will be interesting if they are serious.

Please let this be true, if it is then I reckon it'll be one of the the all time most exciting BMW events. Been a long time since the M1.

It is possible to do something real interesting in this area as Porsche has shown, but the price tag is likely to be frightful.

Sorry guys but those are some dumbass statements. As mentioned above hybrid is the future of supercars and the highest performing street cars ever built are coming out with hybrid gas/electric engines. I mean the McLaren P1 does a standing 1/4 mile in 9.8s at 152mph. This beats the Veyron SS which is the previous fastest car.

But back to the topic of the thread, I'd be surprised if this rumor were true. If BMW wanted a supercar, they could easily make a $200k M8 on their own. The alliance with Toyota tells me it will be something under $100k but I suppose anyone's guess (also known as "rumor") could be true at this point.

Are you joking? Supercar is more like $1,000,000 plus these days.

Personally I don't give a damn how fast the P1 does the standing 1/4 mile in. I would rather have less power and more weight savings. For me its not the idea of a hybrid that kills it for me, its the added weight.

Yes and no. There are a lot of "regular person" cars made by BMW, then theres M series. What about something more sporty to go against a Porsche platform? The Z4M, yeah I guess, but I think a larger group of enthusiasts would be attracted to a more sports inspired car, than a supercar.

Not saying a new 997TT is affordable, but I think a BMW in that realm would be more sought after. Just my two cents, I know everyone has different views.

.....and your point is?

You guys saying hybrids dont belong in supercars are crazy. I mean this is not your prius or leaf. This is supplemental to the beastly motor it SHOULD have for more power and instant torque down low. You will never be driving around town in hybrid mode - maybe in parking lots or in the cul de sac.
+1 jaguar cx-75 as well

You're right. To hell with the P1, LaFerrari and 918. Batteries belong in laptops

Then get a 2er? What else are you wanting? There's already pretty much every car for every need in the BMW lineup!

production cars are made from supercar/racecar technology. Look at ferrari, all of the technology in their production cars are direct representations of the technology used in their F1 cars.
