2018 440xi Exhaust Question

Hi Everyone,

I've got a relatively stock 2018 440xi that I just leased in November. There were some issues with my custom build, and BMW NA gave me some parts/service credit as a make-good.

I put the Burger Tuning black exhaust tips on the car immediately (with the factory option of the black grilles) and I love the look. I want to use the $ from BMW NA to get the MPE muffler, but I just checked Burger's website and they say the tips I have won't fit on the new exhaust. I've also been reading some conflicting things about whether the MPE is worth it.

If I don't go MPE, I could probably just order some M Performance carbon stuff instead for aesthetics (as I've already unplugged the valve in stock mode and like the sound - but I wish it was a bit louder).

What do you all think of the MPE, without the full MPPSK or any tuning stuff?
What exhaust tips do you recommend that aren't the $$$$ BMW CF ones that give me that blacked out look?

Thanks all!

If your dealer sells Dinan parts get a midpipe instead. Will give you more sounds and you can keep the muffler and tips on.

Have you thought of downpipes? Catted or Catless? They really improve the exhaust tone and give you a little added power.

As far as using your credits, I don't think the MPE is that bad of an option. If you really want black tips, you should be able to find aftermarket options on ebay or amazon that will clamp onto the MPE piping. I haven't heard it in person, but the videos I've heard sound very good.

Just curious, how much extra credits are we talking? Depending on the amount, I'd get the MPPK tune over just the exhaust or full MPPSK suite, but it's a lot more than just the MPE.

ah you're right. only available for N55.

in that case i'd just get the MPE and maybe rear diffuser if you have extra afterwards.

I’ve got $1,000 - which between parts price tax and labor won’t cover the full MPE, but probably would cover a Dinan mid-pipe.

Do you all think the mid-pipe would sound better? I’m mainly looking for a bit more noise and soul, and definitely more crackles. Sounds great now in tunnels, but I’d like more of the tunnel-like noise all the time and be awesome in tunnels.

Very torn based on videos I’ve been able to find. But not sure if they’re mid pipes plus a muffler change or just mid pipes and stock exhaust

Did you get cash or BMW credit? If cash, def go aftermarket. I just thought you had to buy BMW parts.

My favorite exhaust that I've heard is the borla s-type or atak. Pretty cheap compared to others and sounds very throaty. I'm not a fan of midpipes or resonator deletes personally.

Unfortunately it’s BMW credit, though it’s a ‘Parts & Service’ credit and my dealership sells Dinan parts too - hence why I can even consider it.

I don’t know enough about the differences in exhausts and types, do you mind explaining why you don’t like mid pipes etc? Is there a specific type of drone or bad sound noise you get with those?
