Outside Ambient Temperature Sensor Issue

A week out of warranty and I get a check engine light and the outside temperature showing -40. I ordered a new OEM sensor and installed today and cleared the code but no luck. Still shows -40 and a check engine light.

I cleaned the plug with some WD40 and added some dialectic grease. And yet no luck in getting the outside temp to read correctly.

Any suggestions on what I need to check?

Yeah, pop the hood, get a flashlight out and look around for rat shit and rat footprints. I got the exact same error code, turned out rat(s) had gotten into the engine bay, burrowed into the firewall, built a little nest and chewed up some engine harnesses. The wrapping on these are soy based and food for rats and the dealer told me this is a, get this, 'common problem' with these cars. They had my car for a month and it was like $7000 in damages. It cost me $100, comprehensive insurance claim.

You should put rat poison in the wiring harnesses so they die before building a nest.

On the way to the office I noticed that the outside temp was correct and then showing negative 40 so I am certain there is a short somewhere.

The rodent theory may have some credence?

I made an appointment with the dealer for tomorrow morning.

All fixed! There was a short in the sensor wire. Apparently the fender liner rubbed through the tape and wire insulator causing the short. I never really looked closely at the wiring.

The plug was replaced as well because (per the RO) there was oil/grease inside the connector. Which was my attempt at fixing the issue.
