Your car was probably regurgitating the Wawa gas.

Had this happen this morning as I just had to move the car back 10 ft down the drovay. I recently had my car tinted so I didn't want the drop down feature to mess it so I left it cracked...I swear I though I hot something....scared the shit out of me at like 5am

Same here, opened drivers door whilst reversing into parking area, ended up being slammed into P.
This seems like a really stupid safety feature, however I do remember an incident over here when a "pop star" managed to fall out of their car (yes whilst driving) and the driverless car then ran over him!

Same issue when I got a nail in the tire. I wasn't sure where the nail was so I would backup a bit and run out the car to check. I felt like a moron/child as every time I went to move the car 6 inches I had to buckle up or close the door completely. Eventually one of my neighbors asked what is going on. Rather than give the explaination that the transmission is forcing "park" mode I just told him "new car".
Of course after moving the car 10 times I realized I could have just latched the seatbelt in and sat on top of that, but 20/20 hindsight. |

If you open the door while maneuvering to park, the car will shift to P. Happened to me a dozen times when backing into the garage.

thinking few years ahead, there must be a sensor of some sort that tells the transmission to go into P when the door is open. So when that sensor goes, your car is a brick?

I've done that in my driveway twice when I was just backing up to work on something.
On a side note... Wawa peach iced tea. That is all.
