335d dual exit exhaust conversion ideas.

Has anyone had this done? I am considering buying the genuine 335i diffuser and getting one made, would love the ac schnitzer model but it's just too much for me to spend.
If anyone has some pics, recommendations or first hand experience please share.

Cheers, looks great but who fits it? What do you reckon would be the overall cost?

Just get someone local to fit it, exhausts aren't particularly hard. Or maybe an independent BMW Specialist. I doubt fitting will be too much.

They look good to me. Not too big, but worth doing. But as with all things aesthetic, not to everyone's taste.

In my opinion it needs to look as stock as possible with regards to spacing, length and diameter. Wants to match the 335i look. The ACS ones are 90mm which are just a bit too big for my liking.

Why do you want to match the 335i look? It's a diesel so what's wrong with the diesel look?

Who or what says one is one look and one is the other? Neither requires it in reality, it's just aesthetics.

Though when the 535d first came out it had just normal twin exit pipes, then both E90 335i/d had split ones, and now on F10 535i/d they are now both split, whereas the stock 335d is now back to a standard twin. Not even BMW can make up their mind what they want to do!

Personally I prefer them split... Probably just because it's symmetrical!

Pipes to one side look naff to me. The split looks sportier and if that is your desire then it is the way to go.

E9x series 335d always looked nice with split.

I am of the impression of it being an acceptable mod. 335d are as exclusive as 335i so why not give them that look, maybe LCI will?

Audi offer twin side exits on much lower levels and I think BMW make their lower range cars look crap lacking this. 328i and 330d would warrant the twin pipe IMO even with a smaller diameter to help differentiate the larger engine

When converting diesel please beware the issue around dpf - I did a little research when selling my stock OEM 335i back box and this was something that came up. Couldn't see if the suggested mod catered for this

Did the back box sell? Is so any idea if it went into a 335d conversion?
Using the genuine bmw 335i diffuser and back boxes would be ideal if compatible with the 'd'

Yes, as I understand it you can't just take the back box meant for a 335i and put it on the 335d.

The company I posted a link to will provide exhausts for all the engines, but with the split pipes. As it is a German company everything is TUV approved, which should give some peace of mind.

Yes it did but to a 328i owner. Very nice chap too.

I was a bit happier with that as I was confident it would not cause a problem.

The chap was going to post some install pics too once done. They may be up soon

Another point - do the diesels have the auto valve that opens after cold start? The 328 had this same connection too which made a standard 35i box a doddle to install

Whats the rrp on the 35i box, any ideas? The genuine 35i diffuser insert is only £65, if i can get the parts for <£600 plus fitting that should be within budget.

Just convert the 335d box, all you need to do is cut the pipes and get some welded back on, you may only need to run one of the pipes around the back and keep the other in place, either way you have two pipes coming out the box, its just a case of moving them around

Yes, this would work with most. I can't do it with mine as the towbar is in the way where you would route the pipe along to the other side. It's not ideal, but at least it's real, and not just a fake pipe!

Please bare with me as I'm no mechanic but how about blanking off one of the existing and cutting out on the other side for a new pipe? Would this affect the working of the exhaust box? What's inside the box of tricks? I guess the 35d spacing may not fit the 35i cut outs.

It doesn't work like that. Stick your head underneath the bumper and you will see. Both pipes come out of same side, so if you want to use existing back box you would need to extend one and re-route around the box to the other side.

Or if you really aren't fussed about mechanical integrity/authenticity you could always fake it, but you should also expect to get slated for it if you admit to doing this on a public forum! Just get someone to attach a fake pipe on one side that doesn't have anything come out of it, and on the other side, it could be redone so that the twin pipe goes back to being a single exit.

You can buy 335i back boxes in the US for a few hundred dollars. Very popular mod to fit aftermarket exhausts over there.

Much easier to fit a 335i back box rather than modify a D one.
