DIY: F30 Valet / hotel lock switch retrofit

Since i travel to many hotels with my car and usually keep some important belongings in my trunk, i have been wanting to install the hotel position switch for a long time. Finally i got one from ebay.de (for about $20) and had the chance to install this weekend.

Extremely easy retrofit, it took around 15 minutes for me. I attached the pdf file that includes useful information about the retrofit (sorry about English mistakes). I hope it helps someone.

Hey,

Thanks for the .pdf! Great write up.

Excuse the question but, where is the "FEM" unit controller/module you plug these wires into located?
I've got an M4 but I assume the wiring and location is similar. It looks to be the inside right rocker
panel - under the Glove box, is this correct?

Also, "Pin 4" & "Pin 1" - Is the wiring on the switch marked as such??

Please confirm.

Thanks again!

Cheers!

So how does it work? All you do is unlock the glove box and switch it over to open the glove box>? Or are you suppose to lock the glove box too?

Huh? I've got a trunk switch in my glove box. When in the locked position the fob and door frame switch won't open the trunk. You remove the physical key from the fob, use it to lock the glove box, keep the key and give the fob to the valet, who cannot open the glove box, and therefore cannot open the trunk.

That's the way it works for me from factory - maybe that option is only on US cars?

The rear seat-back release is in the trunk....at least in my 435iX so you have to access the trunk first.

Now if you have a pass-thu in the rear seat back, the trunk can be opened by reaching into the trunk through the pass-thru and using the emergency trunk release pull.

Someone can jimmy it open with a tire iron too. If someone really wants to get into the trunk they will. The purpose of the valet key is to make it more difficult than pushing a button, encouraging would be thieves to find an easier target.

Hey!

It's me again...

So, I ordered up the parts, but upon receiving them I came across the fact that the Hotel/Valet
switch (part) does Not come with the connector nor the wiring necessary to plug it into the REM
module.

Have you got part #'s for the wiring/connector??

Help!

Cheers!

Mine also came without cables. Since it is just a 2 cable connector I made my connector myself with the pins i got from aliexpress and a connector i already got at home.

But if you need to buy it,

I try to retrofit the hotel switch in my F10, I've found the PIN in the CAS, but i don't know where is the Terminal 31E.

from ISTA+:
Terminal 31E - Terminal 31, electronics earth (ground)
SIG - Signal wire to the Car Access System

Could someone help me?
Thanks

I have a 2018 335i and the only way to open trunk and glove box is with the key. The lock switch will slide but I assume it is stuck in locked position. How do you fix?

Have your dealer fix it, you're under warranty.
