Thoughts on this quote from BMW
Am looking to get lowering springs, want to stick with Dinan for warranty purposes. What do you guys think about the pricing below, i think the install cost is bit steep.
Dinan lowering springs: $425.10 Dinan ride handling kit: $253.96 BMW replacement hardware (for one time use suspension hardware): $170 Custom fees: $50 Installation (includes 4 wheel alignment): $1348.90 Total (not including shipping): $2247.96+tax |

Yup, that's dealership pricing. If you see the value, go for it. I'd question:
- I don't know of any 1-time use hardware other than grease/locktite for suspension (even those they shouldn't really need to use.) Are they replacing all nuts/bolts? - Custom fees?? - Alignment should really be done after the springs settle. As an FYI, that's about $200 out of your install cost. You can definitely do better, but sometimes people are willing to pay for convenience as well. You may want to also read up on the warranty part. It's not as straight forward as keeping your standard warranty. |

Installation/labor is pretty high. Taking alignment out of it and at a labour rate of 164 (rate may vary between dealerships), they're asking 7 hour labour? That's on the high side even for a dealership.
The lowering springs is only a 2.5 hour job (as per BMW) so I doubt that the ride handling kit would take 4.5 hours. |

I'd personally only go to RMP Motors or Eurocharged but mind you I'm out of warranty and don't know too much about Dinan's warranty. Maybe give them a call and inquire.

Not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV, but my understanding is that BMW warranty for affected part (and parts subsequently affected by its failure) is void, but Dinan will pick-up in its place. The authorized dealer (dealership) will continue to do the warranty work, but approval goes through Dinan rather than BMW Canada so customer experience may change through that process. It's probably best to get details from the source.

But the labour to install them is forcing me for going third party for install. I emailed Dinan to inquire about warranty if i go third party. |

The question I would ask myself is how many people have had something suspension related ever break as a result of installing a set of Dinan springs?
Let that drive your decision on whether or not having the dealer take your money is worth it.

the main problem with the price is the labor rate. Budd's charges the BMW rate of $150 no matter what. Dinan suggests their own labor rate of $125.
I got mine installed at another Dinan authorized dealer for $1500 all in and i felt that was fair. Anyways, you probably got your car used so dinan warranty will only cover their own parts so just buy parts online and install it at RMP or another trusted indy

I searched after you suggested, found one thread where a few people reported problems. Doesn't look like a common issue but again i don't want to be one of those people.

How does a MY15 have a warranty till 2020? thought it's only 4 years which would usually put it at this year or next. Was this MY15 sold new in 2016? Also, Dinan doesn't cover CPO.

They don't like to do too many aftermarket mods but they are willing to install these parts for me. If all goes well I'm sure they wouldn't mind me referring people to them for service/parts install. I know the guys that run the shop and they are pretty legit. |
