F30 Bluetooth versions

Hello,

A family member just bought an F30 328i xDrive with the basic iDrive & bluetooth option. The first thing I wanted to check was the bluetooth software version; iDrive displays ME-007.000.080 & TE-007.000.080. According to BMW's Update page, the latest version is ME-7.0.75 & TE-7.0.75. I am an IT guy but am unable to figure out how BMW operates with regards to software versions... Should I read 7.0.08 or 7.0.80? Which one is the latest version?

Thanks

Go to this BMW site (http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...update_vin.jsp), put your VIN number in and it should tell you if you need a software update.

So how can it know if you need a software update? Nm - it tells you what versions are available after your production, right?.

You are right, it only knows if there are updates after the software that was installed at initial assembly. Obviously, it does not necessarily know if you have installed any of the updates.

However, it is likely that you cannot install an update that is the existing software version or an older version. So, when you try to install the update, the car probably won't recognize it has one unless it is a later version than you are already running.

My iDrive also displays ME-007.000.080 & TE-007.000.080 as my current version. After entering my VIN, according to BMW's Update page, the latest version is ME-7.0.75 & TE-7.0.75. So after loading the .bin file onto a USB and plugging it into the USB port iDrive says the latest version is already installed. Therefore I am assuming:

ME-7.0.75 = ME-007.000.075
TE-7.0.75 = TE-007.000.075

As I already have ME-007.000.080 & TE-007.000.080, like the OP, I've not only got the latest version, but I'm a version (or two) ahead of what is available on the BMW website?!

Possibly, yes. I tried installing the BT update but iDrive refused it as being an "older version".
