Well, there is a reason that BMW does this.

The reality is that a 3 Series is a $50,000 fully loaded and full-featured German luxury car. But in order to sell more units to more people, BMW allows the cars to be de-featured and stripped of some essentials to hit a $32,000 price point. Prior to 2015, one of those essentials was Bluetooth.

This has been going on for years, back in 2010 you had to "pay more" to get a garage door opener and memory seats, remember? Well, it wasn't a case of paying more, it really was a case of offering a stripped model for less.

Pay $50,000, you get what its supposed to come with.

Contact forum vendor BimmerTech. Most of dealers will not perform this coding as it is not factory-approved.

In Australia it is worse, a base 328 is $74,500! It's very psychological purchasing a car. I couldn't imagine purchasing one when they first came it and having to spend 85k to get the features cars far cheaper and older have as standard.

Very sorry BMW's cost so much in Australia, that's crazy!

About 5 years ago my mother was looking for a 3 Series here in the US. She had been driving a $35,000 Acura TL for years and wanted something with a bit more prestige. She went into the dealership and was working on a deal when she realized she was about to spend $40,000 on a 328i with no garage door opener, no auto dimming rearview mirror, no folding rear seat, and no power seats.

She told me that was crazy. I told her it's because she was trying to by a $50,000 car for $40,000. It's been this way for decades. BMW lets you into the badge if you're desperate, but you don't get the goodies too.
