good eye...

I know that the 5 series has option to "upgrade" the idrive knob to a ceramic material for "enhanced" more rich feeling over the "standard" idrive mode...

i never knew the 3 series would have that option...

but despite having said that, in this picture, the idrive does not seem to be made of the ceramic material as in the 5 series...
it does have buttons above and below the knob as in the standard version...

this one is just in black grip material... ?? I didn't really answer your questions yet... just gave you all more info to chew on...

PS: i love those 19inch look!!!

beautiful car noneless
I read the F30 manual just now. And seems that if you don't order Navigation then you get a different iDrive Knob with only 2 way movement ( left and right, no up and down) and also there are less buttons. I took a screenshot here it is : http://f.cl.ly/items/1K07050i1k1N120...22.06%20PM.png

Now I have to find out if there is any limitation to this "downgraded iDrive Knob without NAV" such as if you can't save music or some other functions not working. I don't care about NAV but I wan't all other functions to work properly.

Anyone knows what that car was doing in the Netherlands?

It does look like a US version (even though it's a test car) with that front plate (too small for Dutch plates), those reflectors on the nose, and missing side turn signals (which is a requirement in the Netherlands as far as I am aware and I am pretty sure that these pictures were taken there).

It's been assembled in Germany, shipped to Shiphol airport (I think I read somewhere) and of to the USA.

Exactly, it's a US version for sure. And it was @ Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam.

That front end is a real turn off. The dash is a bigger turn off. Not feeling this design at all.

It will grow on you, i am confident!

As for me, it's the total opposite!
I love this design ! inside out! fresh from the "bloated" E90 design.
