320d PPK - 147Kw / 470Nm

Following on from the 330d ppk thread, I have also got good prices on 320d ppk.

Price £806.24 including VAT (RRP 995.00)

Needs fitting which I believe is 3 hours at a BMW dealership.

From BMW:

Equipment for the fast lane: Software and hardware components for your BMW 320d for even better performance – now and in the long term. Includes a modified engine as well as an enlarged air cooler, perfectly adapted to cope with the higher thermic requirements. Includes M Performance lettering for the side sills.
improved performance from 135kW/380 Nm to 147 kW/420 Nm*, elasticity from 0-62 mph: - 0.3 sec
improved response and more power delivery
continues to fulfil the quality and warranty standards
fuel consumption and CO2 emissions remain unchanged
* Maximum torque depends on gear selected

Included in delivery:
Engine control device including latest engine data, air coolers,
BMW M Performance kit aluminium plaque, M Performance lettering for the side sills

Personally, I would rather have my testicles individually plucked than drive a 4 cylinder diesel. However, interested in the caveat that torque is limited in (presumably) the lower gears. Is this the case in the 325d and 330d or just a matter of the 320d drive train being less highly specified than the two former?

Also, if you go to the usual backstreet merchants who will 'tune' your diesel, is torque limited in the same way?

I don't think the 4 pot diesels are gear specific torque limited.

The 330d is as can be seen when compared to xDrive variant. I am hoping this feature is removed on the powerkit

Regarding back street merchants, it depends entirely on the method they use to tune. A piggyback ECU that fools the OEM ECU to up power by feeding it duff information, if not likely to eliminate torque limiting, as it just 'modifies' what is already the program....if that makes sense.

A re-map does have the ability to change these parameters, however, you would need to know a lot about the ECU system and be able to crack all the parameters involved. I haven't heard of anyone able to do this on the F30 yet???

A gear related torque limit is likely to be a different look up table to general engine power/torque parameters. You would need to know how to disable it in the mapping software.

Would it impact Insurance or would they even know it had been done, I do like the idea of another 20 BHP and a smoother mid range and before any one says get a bigger engine.. I don't have that kind of money but could afford this. Don't like the idea of little badges though!!

I spent £1900 and got a 35kw/34hp increase, 1 sec 0-60 improvement, free front pdc and an extra exhaust pipe but no plaque. It's the 325d.

If you want a manual then that's got to be better unless its a retrofit as above?

I wouldn't recommend not informing your insurance company. But as it is a BMW genuine kit, some insurance companies are reasonable.

Who would say no to a power boost

Little write up, not for F30 but same engine in the e90

320d powerkit review

Power is just under 200hp, but you get 40nm almost everywhere which makes all the difference.

Nope.
Cos I prefer my car not to sound like a canal boat. Have the rev range of an old industrial generator and the performance of a tricycle.....

Cheers, looks as though the power delivery will be smoother with better throttle response as I drive in sport 99% of the time it should make it more interseting...

The future

After having an few Bmw's e46 320d & 330d and currently E92 335i

With my lease finishing, I am very interested in this mod - as I understand its producing around 210bhp in real world.

After driving an F30 320d - I was surprised it did not sound like my old 320d - but more refined.

I love my 335i - but getting 250-300 miles an tank - and filling up every week getting from 25mpg to 50+ mpg is very tempting.

I totally ignored the 320d as been an contender as it been an 4 pot - however my dealer/slealler was quoting £3k for the upgrade but need to clarify what it includes as I know he was quoting new 20" alloys - nice but not an an 320D IMO. I really hate the way I am thinking but the 320d has to be an reall contender with this mod. Especially it will not effect my warranty!!!

Hi Just about to order my car looks like the budget wont run to a 330D so a 320D with this kit looks a better compromise. What sort of money will the labour cost to have it fitted at the dealer. Also is it better to get it fitted before the car is delivered or after its been run in? Finally how long do you think you will you be able to keep them at this price? You have 30 seconds to answer and then i may have another string of questions

I didn't get labour prices for 320d kit, however, the work done is exactly the same as the non brake upgrade 330d kit, so would expect same or similar. £313 ish which you might be able to knock down.

they said it was fine to fit mine on brand new car, which is the plan.

Asked my local dealer for a price on this kit include fitting.
Still waiting for a response, asked them Wednesday, apparently they've asked BMW but not got a lot back yet.

Not sure it £1200 - £1300 is really worth it? Can't you just buy the new ECU without the intercooler etc?

I'm sure they could get more than 15bhp out of it if they are replacing the intake and intercooler.

Well, just come from a 330d, so I used to wear the hair on my right ballsack longer than that on the left. This of course was achieved by shaving rather than plucking....
